Watching the trailer for The Judge feels like hearing Robert Downey Jr. say to the Iron Man armor: "we need to see other people."
The apparently slightly comedic drama finds the star playing a lawyer with a somewhat lax moral code. When his mother dies in his home town, he not only has to confront his estranged father (and on an acting level confront the giant that is Robert Duvall), but also represent him in a murder trial.
While the trailer makes the movie seem somewhat predictable (with lines like "sometimes you need to forgive in order to be forgiven" not exactly helping matters), it's always a pleasure to see Downey Jr. in more dramatic fare, without armor, alien invasion or flirty Asgardians to contend with.
Don't get me wrong: I am happy as a peach that the Iron Man series made him who he is now. But seeing him act opposite Robert Duvall: a pleasure!
