Earlier this year, Lady Gaga scrapped a planned video for her single “Do What U Want.” The footage in question was shot in September and allegedly initially set for a December release, that is until it was buried in a dark place never to be seen by human eyes.
But why was it scrapped?
Well, the video was directed by the photographer Terry Richardson who has since been accused of numerous cases of sexual assault, and featured R. Kelly who was accused of urinating on, and having sex with a minor. Oh, and it also happens to be so offensive it has been described by some sources as an "ad for rape".
Back in 2013 Lady Gaga claimed that the delay on the video was due to mismanagement and unscrupulous agents. Gaga posted on her website that;
It is late because, just like with the Applause video unfortunately, I was given a week to plan and execute it. It is very devastating for someone like me, I devote every moment of my life to creating fantasies for you. All my my most successful videos were planned over a period of time when I was rested and my creativity was honored. Those who have betrayed me gravely mismanaged my time and health and left me on my own to damage control any problems that ensued as a result. Millions of dollars are not enough for some people. They want billions. Then they need trillions. I was not enough for some people. They wanted more. I am very grateful to the photographers and designers who have always stood by me to make sure my fans are never aware of the things that happen behind the scenes, but unfortunately after my surgery I was too sick, too tired, and too sad to control the damage on my own. My label was not aware that this was going on. The next few months of ARTPOP will truly be its beginning. Because those who did not care about ARTPOP’s success are now gone, and the dreams I have been planning can now come to fruition. Please forgive me that I did not foresee this coming, I never thought after all the years of hard work that those I called friends and partners would ever care so little at a time I needed them the most
BUT this also coincided with an article that illuminated the staggering number of sexual assault cases on young girls involving R. Kelly that the star had allegedly paid himself out of. Gaga then recut the song and replaced R. Kelly with the more wholesome Christina Aguilera.
Richardson has faced sexual assault allegations for years which he has always denied, but recently many more models have came forwards to describe him forcing them to perform degrading sexual acts during photo shoots.
An anonymous source later told the New York Post that;
Gaga had a video directed by an alleged sexual predator, starring another sexual predator. With the theme, ‘I'm going to do whatever I want with your body’? It was literally an ad for rape
This quote emerged BEFORE the video surfaced. But then TMZ got their grubby little mitts on a copy. I was genuinely shocked by the content.
Take a look for yourself below;
In sections of the video that are yet to be released, The New York Post claims that R. Kelly says to Gaga that;
I'm putting you under, and when you wake up, you’re going to be pregnant
looking at the concept of this video, I'm pretty sure he isn't talking about treating an unconscious Gaga with IVF...
If making a music video about having sex with an unconscious woman isn't trivializing rape, I don't know what is.
Were you shocked by this video?
