Two years ago, Geoff Johns, who is rumored to write and produce The Flash movie (I guess now the Flash & Green Lantern movie), as well as currently serving as the executive producer of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice that is being filmed as we speak -- talked about his attachment to and Warner Brothers' plans for a Shazam movie:

Oh, no, Shazam's always — there's always a possibility for Shazam. There's always talk about Shazam. And I can't get into the specifics on that, but yeah, there's hope for Shazam.

By the sounds of it, Johns was almost expecting the plans to eventually continue forward after a year or so. Does this mean that the previous plans that have been made for a Shazam movie are still in place for the upcoming production? Although it sounds crazy to still be planning to use a cast and crew that signed on for the production years ago, Marvel Studios' Edgar Wright who was attached to the [Ant-Man](movie:9048) project for eight years before leaving the film goes to show that a director can stick to a buried production for quite some time.

This past December, Peter Segal, who is attached to direct the film, revealed that he "[didn't] know if it's going to see the light of day anytime soon." Does this mean that he is still attached or does him not knowing the current plans tell us that he has moved on and is no longer on board?

Though with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson having been a frontrunner to play Black Adam, the super-villain behind Shazam, added along with recently baffled our minds by suggesting he is going to be a character in an upcoming DC franchise (which many people assumed would be Batman v. Superman), his reappearance in the DC Cinematic Universe suggests that the original movie plans have returned with similar cast and crew as was originally planned.

If they are to stick with the original plans, here is who we can expect to be starring in the (hopeful) Shazam movie!

  • Peter Segal as Director
  • Geoff Johns & Billy Birch as Writers
  • Brandon Molale as Shazam (possibly?)
  • Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as Black Adam

According to the practically confirmed Shazam movie rumors, [Shazam](movie:738107) is set by Warner Brothers for a July 2016 release date, coming right after [Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice](movie:711870). This leads us to believe that filming for the project would very likely start next summer. During the first plans for the film, Brandon Molale was the face for the role of Shazam. Is he still up for taking on the role of the superhero, or will the multi-million dollar contract be handed to another, more fresh and up-and-coming actor at this point?
