In [Man of Steel](movie:15593), Zack Snyder helmed one of the most polarizing superhero movies of all time but even who hated it will agree that visually it looked awesome. JoBlo has some significant scoops regarding [Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice](movie:711870) which confirms that Snyder's visual strength remains intact. People who had problems with Superman's characterization in Man of Steel and hence think this movie is set to fail are forgetting that Snyder and Goyer are very good with darker heroes and anti-heroes (Watchmen, Blade, The Dark Knight Trilogy etc.) so I am fairly confident that Wonder Woman and Batman will be done justice in this film.
[Warning: Potential Spoilers ahead]
People should also note that in New-52 Batman and [Wonder Woman](movie:45787) are the most critically lauded titles. The following details all seem to show that they are in the right direction :
Wonder Woman’s costume will be of a badass “Amazon warrior princess”
There won't be any jacket and other urban re-imaginations for Wonder Woman This Wonder Woman is ripped right from the comics and has a “traditional, yet sleeker” costume that’s “battle ready.” She’ll have a blue leather skirt, silver-armored cuffs that reach to her elbows, golden tiara (with a design of some sort in the center, a red star maybe) and a variation of the traditional-looking red top (no word on additional armor on it). Her overall appearance is described as “Amazon warrior princess”. She’s there to kick ass and that’s readily apparent. Word is that WB is getting a very positive response on her appearance to those they’ve shown it to.
Wonder Woman’s weapons:
Wonder Woman will have no less than FOUR weapons, including shield, sword, spear, and of course, the traditional lasso. It’s also noted that she will wear the shield on her back, Captain America style, when not in use. This is heavily influenced by New-52 , which is great since New-52 Wonder Woman is currently one of the most critically acclaimed titles.
Wonder Woman’s will have significant screen time and not a cameo
Her character will be introduced as “Diana” in the film initially before we ever see her as Wonder Woman. She will have a fair amount of screen time and will team up with Batman and Superman for the final battle against an un-named villain who may be working or controlled by Lex Luthor. Her origin will be intentionally vague, but she is brought into the fold to show that there are other superheroes in the universe other than Superman.
Wonder Woman fans who worried that the world's premier super heroine will be reduced to a glorified cameo a la Hawkeye in Thor should take solace in this fact. This is sounding more of a trinity movie which is awesome.
Batman, The Batcave, and more Batstuff:
As for Batman's usual digs; Wayne Manor is there, but Bruce Wayne chooses to live on the property in a modern-looking cottage by a lake (not a van down by the river, though). Underneath the cottage is a modernized Batcave, which houses a Batwing, along with his other gear (Batmobile, batarangs, etc.).
This means we will be apparently jumping back and forth between Metropolis and Gotham.
Batman will be a bad ass and Superman a boy-scout
Batman is said to be a veteran crime fighter that will do anything it takes to get the job done. Superman is a rule follower, so they often don't see eye to eye, which is a consistent dynamic with their initial relationship.
The movie isn't that predictable, maybe Superman goes after Batman because he is a dangerous vigilante and a government liability like in "The Dark Knight Returns". Maybe Batman goes after Superman due to Metropolis's destruction. Everything is wide open currently.
Lex Luthor’s motivations:
Lex Luthor (who is rumored to have longish red/dirty blonde hair at the beginning of the film) thinks he is god's gift to humanity and the best that humanity has to offer, which leads to his hatred of Superman. Because Superman is basically a “god” it makes Lex feel less than perfect. Lex tries to sway people to dislike and fear Superman - and many people ARE swayed. Some see Superman as a hero, while others see him as the ultimate threat.
This is something I don't buy. Jesse Eisenberg doesn't necessarily seem God's gift to mankind but maybe he is delusional and that makes him a dangerous opponent
Apparently we will be seeing a Batman V Superman footage at San Diego Comic-Con. Pretty exciting considering the movie is still almost 2 years away!.
I am digging all of this except Batman vs Superman part. Hey! I want to see Batman and Superman duke it out on the big screen like most people but here it is kind of redundant. The fight in the "The Dark Knight Returns" was memorable because for the first time these two weren't just tussling, they were trying to take each other down once and for all, it was unpredictable and hence a masterclass. Here we already know they are going to team up at the end, since this a Justice league prequel so having them fight won't be particularly thrilling as WB/DC seems to think.
