Fans of both Transformers and G.I. Joe have often talked about a mashup movie of the two. Both of these franchises are huge in their own right and so a mashup would be a huge undertaking. We've seen it in the comics, but what about the big screen?

In a recent MTV interview, Transformers producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura was asked the question.

Here's what he had to say below:

No, we haven't spent a moment on it. I know they did it in the comic books, but I think the reality that we're looking at's hard enough to figure out how to do it alone and [then] trying to figure out how to do it together...I don't think that it's as organic as people think. I know a lot of the fans feel that way and I don't think they're wrong. I find it a harder thing to do, think about trying to combine the schedules of all the different people. So, that alone will probably stop us.

I don't really understand this one. Marvel have managed to pull together [The Avengers](movie:9040) twice, three of which have their own solo franchises Iron Man, Captain American and Thor, so perhaps they simply haven't thought about it yet or they don't want to reveal their hand.

Perhaps one of the main issues with a G.I./Transformers crossover is that the comics continuously ignored the continuity of the two universes. The series of comics, G.I. Joe vs the Transformers, were seen by most as pulp comics that created slightly more absurd universes where lots of characters from both series died. If it was going to happen then it would be hard for the movies to continue unless they wished to reboot completely.

If there were to be a G.I. Joe Transformers crossover, what do you think it should be?

I think The Art of War series has one of the best stories. It follows the release of Serpent O.R. following a Cobra attack on the G.I. Joe base.

Serpent O.R. (Organic Robot) has a genetically enhanced personality which fuses the knowledge of Earths past leaders - Napoleon, Atilla the Hun, Julius Ceasar - and the personality of Megatron. He also wore a snake suit.

He reunites the Decepticons and wages war on the Autobots and human race once again. Pretty cool wouldn't you say?

Which G.I. Joe vs the Transformers story would you like to see?
