The appearance of the Sentinels in [X-Men: Days Of Future Past](movie:203942) was always going to engender controversy with some of the more hardcore X-Men fans. As it turns out, I think most viewers were relatively pleased with how both the 1970s and future Sentinels appeared.

With already seen some concept art of the mutant hunter-seekers and now we've got some more courtesy of ComicBookMovie and conceptual illustrator Stéphane Levallois:

Considering these storyboard panels, Levallois had this to say:

I first developed the idea that sentinels can regenerate thanks to moving scales. I had not read the script and, just to give it a try, I storyboarded the scene in which Wolverine tears up a sentinel that would form itself back together again at once.

I personally quite like these bulkier designs of the Sentinels. In fact, I'm not entirely sure why, but these designs kind of remind me of one of my favorite sculptures, Umberto Boccioni's Unique Forms of Continuity in Space. I think primarily it's something to do with their imposing gait and asymmetrical element.

Which design of Sentinel did you prefer?
