Note: SPOILERS for X-Men: Days of Future Past lie below...

One of the peculiar traits of the X-Men franchise is that the best element of each film tends to disappear by the time the next entry in the series comes along.

X-Men's tight, streamlined team? Gone by X2.

X2's Nightcrawler? Gone by X-Men: The Last Stand.

X-Men: First Class' entire premise of a class? Gone by X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Hold up. I've missed one out there, haven't I?

"Yes. Yes you have."
"Yes. Yes you have."

Ah. Of course.

X-Men: The Last Stand. The movie that gave us Vinnie Jones as Juggernaut, and almost killed the franchise. Even that film, though, had a shining light: Mr Hank McCoy - aka The Beast.

A man who can even make deleted scenes filled with wooden acting seem awesome...

Beast, of course, returned in X-Men: First Class - but not as he originally appeared. Which is to say: Nicholas Hoult is great and all - but he isn't quite Kelsey Grammer.

But you're still great Nick - please don't kill me.
But you're still great Nick - please don't kill me.

The good news, then, is that if Kelsey Grammer has his way, we might just get the chance to have both.

The actor recently spoke to Collider about his cameo appearance in X-Men: Days of Future Past, and revealed just how he ended up appearing in the film - as well as his hopes to do so again:

"Actually I called Bryan...I bumped into Hugh Jackman and he said, ‘Oh you’re gonna be in another X-Men, mate!’ and I said, ‘No I’m not, I don’t know anything about it.’ So I made a couple of inquiries, got a hold of the script, found out that it’s primarily dealing with the past and that timeline I don’t have a place in, but I saw that at the end there was this coda where he made an appearance. I said, ‘Listen, I really want to be involved,’ so Bryan arranged for it and I had a lovely time."
"I hope to do another. I hope they find some way to come up with a new story that involves Beast in my timeline."

Which is...less fighting talk than those among us who were hoping for a full-on Beast v Beast brawl - but still a firm throwing of his hat into the ring. Could we even get a chance to see them both in X-Men: Apocalypse?

Now, i'm just throwing this one out there, in case any X-Men producers have somehow gotten lost, and are reading this, but Dark Beast, anyone? It is set to be (sort of) the Age of Apocalypse, after all - and he is both unbelievably cool and spectacularly evil...

Either way - it's good news for the micro-curse of the X-Men franchise. Not only does Grammer's reappearance in X-Men: Days of Future Past serve to remind us that those disappearing best bits of each film sometimes reappear in later editions - but it could even lead to a double-Beast film in the future.

Better yet, since Evan Peters' Quicksilver is totally set to appear in X-Men: Apocalypse - the curse might well be broken, anyhow.

[X-Men: Apocalypse](movie:1194267) is set for release May 27, 2016.

What do you guys think? Who do you want to see as Beast in X-Men: Apocalypse?
