So, Roger Corman followed me on twitter today, and being a curious sort of person, I checked out his website to see what Corman had been up to. Corman hasn't directed a film since the 90s, and hasn't directed a good film since the late 60s, but he's been a busy little bee when it comes to producing some monumentally strange pieces of made-for-TV specialness.
Next up for SyFy? Sharktopus Vs. Mermantula
The "plot": When a washed-up baseball player dopes up under the care of a shady scientist (Catherine Oxenberg), he becomes the hideous Mermantula, a half-merman, half-tarantula.
Meanwhile Sharktopus has returned to terrorize the Caribbean, attracting the attention of a voodoo-wielding crime boss. Caught in the middle of the chaos are two ex-lovers, the charming drunk Ray (Casper Van Dien) and the sexy but tough cop Nita. It's disaster of monstrous proportions.
I'm going to let that sink in while you check out these teasers for Sharktopus vs Mermantula
Now, I don't think I can even get into the scientific specifics of how ridiculous the thought of a half merman (which is already a mythical half man, half fish) and half tarantula would be - but from the teaser, it looks like Mermantula has retained his ability to spin deadly webs, and to take on Sharktopus, he's probably rocking a tail and some sweet gills. I don't even know how that works.
BUT - the reappearance of Sharktopus is also what we like to call a SPOILER ALERT - now you know that Sharktopus survives his bitch-slapping fight with Pteracuda!
What do YOU think of these teasers??
