Avengers: Age of Ultron is still far too far away for our liking - a year is an awfully long time to wait in superhero movie terms - but thankfully that doesn't mean we have nothing to survive on in the meantime.
Case in point, this recently released (and awesome) new shot of Thor pandering to some mere mortals - and revealing a new side to his costume in the process:
Which is...not all that different to his costume in Thor: The Dark World, at least at first glance. Take a closer look, though, and it's acquired a distinctly less golden tint, with the central metallic sections becoming silver. You can check out the images side by side below:
Could this be a direct response to the events of Thor: The Dark World, and a visual prompt of a shift in Thor's focus towards Midgard? Or, alternatively, is it just intended to be a sleeker, more Ultron-bashing-friendly adaptation? Could the price of gold have simply gone up in the MCU? We may never know...
This all got us thinking, though - just how much has Thor's costume changed over the years? We thought we ought to take a look - and see how each costume compares to his latest one.
Thor in The Avengers
Well, from The Avengers to Thor: The Dark World, you can see an obvious transition to a more traditional, Asgardian look to the hero - but it's also interesting to note that the color palette seems to have been restored to a silvery one since the events on the Dark World.
Thor in Thor
The change between Thor's original outfit from his initial solo outing and his Avengers get up might not have been earth-shattering, but it did soften the angular edges of the initial costume - some of which has returned with the latest design. His hair isn't as fancy anymore, though... Funny, that.
Thor in the Comics
And so we come to the original - from which all other Thor costumes originate. It's fascinating to see just how faithful, and simultaneously divergent, the movie costumes have been. They've taken away much of the simplicity of Thor's original outfit - but also managed to keep much of what made it iconic in the first place. Interestingly, this latest costume actually returns some of that simplicity, and though the six circle design is minimized, the base level Thor-ness of the outfit actually seems to have been substantially emphasized.
Which is...awesome, actually.
[The Avengers: Age Of Ultron](movie:293035) is set for release May 1, 2015 - with Thor's new costume front and center.
