Recent rumors courtesy of Latino Review might mean that we have some seriously interesting villains to look forward to in [Star Wars: Episode VII](movie:711158). There's a lot of talk about a band of Mandalorians, but the part that I am most excited about is the possibility of a Sith Witch/Witches.

These "Sith Witches" are most likely the Nightsisters, a sect of the Witches of Dathomir, and a part of the Clone Wars universe. The rumors are very vague (and of course, are also just rumors!) but I am truly hoping that they are happening, and here's why!

Let's deal with the obvious first, shall we? Ever since the original casting announcement, there have been grumblings about how male-dominated the cast is. Part of this was inevitable - the new movie will follow on from the originals, and the original cast was mostly men. Bringing back the original cast means that there were going to be a lot of male central characters, and there is just nothing to be done about it. That said, I obviously would like to see a slightly more gender-balanced film this time, and the introduction of female villains is a fantastic way to do that!

Bringing in an all-female group of force-warriors is even better. If true, this is a move that should be well-received by all those who were disappointed not to see more actresses in the cast of central characters.

This is a move that will also appeal hugely to all of those fans of the Clone Wars universe (obviously). It would be easy for Episode VII to stick only with the universe already seen in the previous films (plus a few brand new characters), so I am thrilled to see that they are drawing inspiration from the animated Star Wars universe as well. Obviously, there will be some new creations, but a nod to the movies and series will make the hardcore fans incredibly happy.

This move may also allow us to re-visit Darth Maul, a huge fan favorite from the prequels. Darth Maul was the son of a Nightsister before being given to Darth Sidious, and I can absolutely see some kind of family link being brought up in the new movie.

Finally, lets talk about the most exciting possibility of all, and one that ties in perfectly with the Mandalorian mercenary possibility. Asajj Ventress!

A major character in [Star Wars: The Clone Wars](series:200641), Asajj Ventress is a Nightsister, but is so much more than that, which makes her all the more interesting. Obviously the timeline wouldn't allow for her involvement with Count Dooku, but maybe we can see some kind of vengeance story arc? As a bounty hunter, it's possible that we see her teaming up with (maybe even leading?) the Mandalorians.

Frankly, I just can't wait to see that lightsaber dual-wield!!

What do you think, Nightsisters yes or no?
