There are a lot of overrated horror films out there, especially the popular films. I'm going to pick five films and explain to you how and why I think they're overrated!

Friday The 13th

This franchise has always been very overrated, every film in this franchise has a low budget which leads to poor acting. The story is exceedingly predictable and shows a minimal amount of good horror elements. There's that little bit of gore and suspense, but that's about it. Yes the original Friday the 13th is a classic and I admire it, but that does not explain the terrible other twelve sequels and remakes after it! This franchise is popular because it was one of the first slasher films to be produced and Friday the 13th is considered an unlucky day but that is no excuse for the poor acting and predictable story line. I must admit I admire the character Jason Voorhees but Friday the 13th just isn't my cup of tea.

Hostel 1, 2 and 3

I was quite hyped to see these films as people couldn't stop talking about them. So I went and saw them and let me tell you, it wasn't the most appealing experience. If you like plain torture and very little story Hostel is for you. The Hostel franchise is basically for people who like to watch humans get tortured in the most inventive ways. Such as someone being suffocated to death by cockroaches being released into her mouth and a man's genitals being ripped off and fed to a dog. Personally the Hostel franchise is just a blood bath and the best words to describe it as are ' A bad excuse for the Saw franchise', because Saw has many key horror elements such as a good story, realistic acting and a satisfying level of gore.

Silent Hill

Despite the hype of the Silent Hill video games, the films did not live up to expectations. The plot is extremely repetitive it's like a scratched disc annoying and dull. In Silent Hill (2006) Sharon's mother takes her to the town of Silent Hill and Sharon goes missing and in Silent Hill Revelations (2012) Sharon's dad goes missing on her eighteenth birthday and she spends the majority of the time trying to find him! The irony of Silent Hill is its video games are more popular, have more quality and are more terrifying than the actual films themselves. To be honest Silent Hill has some incredible scenes but I will never understand the hype behind films.

The Blair Witch Project

How could someone produce a film so atrocious like this, it was just an absolute nightmare to watch, the acting was so poor I think just about anyone person could have starred in it. The story is so tedious it's just an endless walk in the forest if you really think about it. I only just managed to finish watching this film before I was bored to death. The film is set in a first person view through someone holding a camera, which is another thing, they tried to create that authentic feel using the camera but it made things worse instead. Because the camera was just about everywhere on the screen at once making it hard to figure out what's going on and where. The 'scary' scenes were basically people screaming and a black screen with completely nothing to see but only to hear. I have absolutely nothing good to say about this film, it was just a bloody shocker to be honest.

Paranormal Activity

The Paranormal Activity franchise is extremely overrated, and targeted at a young teen audience that aren't experienced in the horror genre at all. This is why us horror fans see so many flaws in the franchise, like the poor cast and repetitive storyline. Every single film is based around an evil presence that lurks around the home. All the jump scares and frights are so predictable it's not scary at all, it's just a waste of time and will be the most boring 90 minutes of your life!
