There aren't many more wished-for movies that The Dark Tower. Stephen King's dark, epic fantasy series has acquired an enormous and devoted fanbase over the years, and the prospect of a screen version of the story has proven as enticing as it has elusive.

The most recent attempt at bringing it to the big screen - which would have seen Ron Howard directing three movies, with mini-series in between - came close, but was ultimately passed on by Universal and Warner Brothers due to the projects inherent financial risk.

The worst part? Newly released concept art from Gregory Hill (who also worked on The Amazing Spider-Man 2) makes what we would have seen all the more exciting.

You can check it out below - with glimpses of some of the book's most iconic locations. Plus, two videos take a closer look at Tull, and just what the town would have looked like.

Which makes the whole thing look a cross between Red Dead Redemption, The Wizard of Oz, Fallout 3 and Game of Thrones. Which sounds almost unbelievably awesome.

C'mon studios - is anyone out there willing to give it a chance? We promise we'll all buy it on DVD...
