So. You're about to adapt a novel about an astronaut, stranded, all alone. Who do you call? Anyone who's seen Ridley Scott's Alien knows just how ridiculous a question this is - you call Ridley, and if he says no, you ask him for a recommendation.

Simon Kinberg, it seems, is a lucky man. Speaking on The Q&A with Jeff Goldsmith podcast, he revealed that not only did he approach the legendary director to take the helm of his upcoming adaptation of Andy Weir's The Martian - but that the legendary director said yes.

Scott will apparently begin filming this fall, with Matt Damon stepping into the shoes of the story's stranded astronaut. He takes over from Drew Goddard, whose involvement in the extended Spider-Man franchise appears to have forced his departure.

The only problem now? If The Martian is filming this fall, it seems more than likely that Scott won't be directing Prometheus 2...

See, this is why we can't have nice things...

[The Martian](movie:959366) is yet to receive a confirmed release date. Let's say 2015/16, though...
