Most of the time, the Internet is all groovy. It's Facebook, it's Instagram, it's a hilarious video of a cat on a skateboard. But sometimes, the internet shows its darker side.

I'm not talking supernatural hoodoo like spooky web-horror FeardotCom - we're talking real, human casualties, like the infamous Slender Man stabbings...

Check out these times the internet caused tragic killings...

The Slender Man Claims A Third Victim

The Slender Man has already been implicated in two stabbing cases, but new information suggests a third crime. A man who killed two police officers and a member of the public before he and his wife commited suicide...is said to have often dressed up as The Slender Man.

Jerad and Amanda Miller, posted several bizarre videos and images of themselves before the fatal shooting, talking about a 'revolution'. The tragedy has rocked their Las Vegas community.

The Worst Parenting You've Ever Heard Of

In 2010, a couple in South Korea were charged with starving their three-month-old daughter to death...because they were too busy raising a virtual baby online.

A police official involved in the case reported, 'They indulged themselves in the online game of raising a virtual character so as to escape from reality, which led to the death of their real baby.'

Syko Sam, Farmville

In a bizarre twist of online fate, a hardcore rapper named 'Syko Sam' killed four people in the town he lived...Farmville, Virginia. Although nothing to do with the childish online game, 'Syko' posted violent lyrics to his songs on Facebook and Myspace:

I’ve killed many people and I kill them real slow
It’s the best feeling, watching their last breath
Stabbing and stabbing till there’s nothing left

The Online Drugs Trade

It seems like something from a futuristic dystopia, but it's easy to buy drugs from online sources such as Silk Road, and police are powerless to shut them down.

21-year-old Daniel Skelly was found dead at his home after overdosing on cocaine he bought from the internet. His mother said of the tragedy, 'I felt like I was drowning in a sea of evil.'

The 'Relationship Status' Murder

People can be kinda touchy when it comes to the Facebook 'relationship status', but one man took this to a tragic extreme. When Edward Richardson's estranged wife changed her status from 'married' to 'single', he snapped.

Richardson snuck into the room his wife was staying in at her parents' house and stabbed her to death in a jealous frenzy, before killing himself. He was clearly unbalanced, but the Facebook-themed tipping point is just horrible.

Facebook Gang Murder

The murdered teenager

A teenage gang of over 20 bloodthirsty killers made their plans to kill their rival, 15-year-old Sofyaen Belamouadden over the chillingly everyday means of Facebook chat.

If that wasn’t public enough, the gang ended up stabbing the terrified Sofyen to death in front of hundreds of horrified commuters in London Victoria Tube Station. Their weapons of choice? An eclectic assortment of weapons from screwdrivers to samurai swords.

Do these internet-fuelled crimes make you feel any different about browsing the web, or do you reckon people will do terrible things no matter what technology they have at their disposal?
