Although Ansel Elgort and Shailene Woodley are clearly the closest of friends these days, Elgort has revealed that there have been times where he has been absolutely terrified of his female co-star.
No, she hasn't tried to make him eat a mud pie for dinner or insisted he uses toothpaste made of herbs and spring water for their kissing scenes. For once, she was actually being rational.
In an interview with Bliss Magazine, Elgort admitted he almost didn't read the acclaimed book by John Green that [The Fault In Our Stars](movie:602185) is based on before his audition, but the studious Woodley forced him to brush up. He explained that;
I was on set with her on 'Divergent' and she said, 'Have you read it yet?' I couldn't lie to her, I said, 'No, I haven't.' She said, 'If you show up for the screen test and you haven't read it, I'll be so mad! I was like, 'Oh crap, I've got to read this otherwise she's gonna be annoyed with me the whole time!'
Elgort was so terrified of Shailene's disdain that he heeded her wise words and read the novel, which follows the tragic love story of two cancer-stricken teens, and was blown away by it.
He told Bliss Magazine:
I literally couldn't put it down, it was so great. I read it over two days, which I've never done - I don't even read books! That's my only downside ... well, one of my downsides
And, clearly his homework paid off because the rest is history. So, maybe we have Woodley to thank for such a perfect Gus!
Would you read a book in preparation for an audition?
