A lot of men would have distanced themselves from this sort of scandal to prevent their career being tarnished, but Robert Downey Junior isn't like most men.

The 49-year-old actor has famously had his ups and downs when it comes to drug addiction, but now his son Indio is slipping down the same dangerous road as his father once did.

Indio Downey was caught in the possession of cocaine in West Hollywood yesterday afternoon. According to reports, Indio was a passenger in a car that was targeted by police after they spotted another passenger smoking from a pipe. When the cops pulled the car over they found cocaine on Indio's person. He was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and released early this morning on $10,000 bail.

Then Robert Downey Jr. stepped in.

The Iron Man actor has stood firmly by his 20-year-old son's side and even bravely admitted he could have passed his own addiction issues onto his children.

Downey Junior issued the following strong and heartfelt statement to the press after Indio's arrest;

Unfortunately there’s a genetic component to addiction and Indio has likely inherited it. Also, there is a lot of family support and understanding, and we’re all determined to rally behind him and help him become the man he’s capable of being. We’re grateful to the Sheriff’s department for their intervention, and believe Indio can be another recovery success story instead of a cautionary tale

It's just so honest.

You've got to respect Robert Downey Junior for confronting the issue head on and not getting his publicist to bury the issue. That's the mark of a real man.

With a father like this, I'm sure Indio has every possible chance of breaking the chains of addiction and becoming a great man. Just like his dad.
