I am on shoot day 16 of 18 for 'Night of the Living Deb' as I write this. We have had 16 rip roaring, bloody gushing, fantastic days. There have been hot days, long days, rainy days, and most importantly zombie days. 'Night of the Living Deb' is a romantic comedy set in the midst of a zombie outbreak. I never imagined to be filming a zom-com in Portland, Maine. The people of Maine have been quite amazing in their support for the film. Never have I worked on a project where closing down a street warrants for a newscast and newspaper headlines (on several papers mind you). Portland, Maine has been a welcoming and warm (except for those rainy days) to us. It helps me to remember why I make movies, films have a universal response. People around the world react to film and television, emotionally and socially.
On this shoot I have had an office on a driveway under a pop-up tent, a hotel ballroom, a mansion, and many other locations. The range of locales in this film is truly amazing, the cast and crew even more so. I have worked with the film's director, Kyle Rankin, before on 'Nuclear Family'. Rankin is a Maine native, but more importantly to me, he is clear in his vision and direction. Our producer/actor Michael Cassidy (pictured above) has been extraordinary to work with. Not only a gracious man, but a hard working one as well. Pulling double duty isn't easy, but he has been supportive during the entire process.
Maria Thayer has brought Deb to life in the most marvelous way. She has fantastic wit and charm that brightens the screen. You may remember her from 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall', well she's brought her talents to a whole new level. Now, you'll all just have to wait and see what happens to Deb when 'Night of the Living Deb' premieres!
The film also stars Ray Wise, Chris Marquette, Julie Brister, Syd Wilder, and Brian Sacca. If you're in the Portland, Maine area check out our site! We're having a wrap party, see ticket info at http://www.nightofthelivingdeb.com
