Given the presentation of the Dornish (in particular Prince Oberyn Martell) in Season 4 of Game of Thrones, it was always assumed that Spain would be stand-in for the fictional kingdom in Season 5 of the show.

Well, according to the U.S. Ambassador to Spain and the former Vice President of HBO, James Contos, that is exactly what is going to happen. HBOWatch recently confirmed that the Game of Thrones team would be heading to Spain in order to film its Dorne scenes.

Furthermore, it has also been revealed that the 14th century Moorish castle and the oldest royal palace still is use, Alcázar of Seville, will act as the Water Gardens of Dorne - a favored haunt of Prince Doran. Take a look at one of its courtyards below:

Although it has not been confirmed, it is also likely that Spain - in particular the Iberian peninsula - could also be used to present the House Martell capital, Sunspear.

It is expected that Dorne and the House Martell - who were introduced in Season 4 of Game of Thrones - will take on increased importance and screentime in Season 5.

Is Spain the ideal location to shoot the Dorne scenes?
