Found footage as a genre may be on the way out (ok, maybe that's just my wishful thinking), but on it's way, there are a few indie gems to be found.
The Last Showing is one of those films. As per usual, Robert Englund is the perfect choice for a villain. He's charismatic, he's chillingly calm, and it can't ever be denied that the man knows how to play a delicious revenge story to the very last frame.
The story: A couple trapped in a cinema are becoming the unwilling stars in a horror film being captured by CCTV cameras and the handycam of a disgruntled former employee.
Starring Finn Jones (Game of Thrones), Emily Barrington (24: Live Another Day), Keith Allen (The Others, Trainspotting), and our villain, Robert Englund. While most horror films hinge around the leading man and the damsel in distress - The Last Showing is about the villain, and that's what I like about it. Like Saw, Nightmare on Elm Street, and The Collection (to name a few), the action of the film is driven by the villain - someone pulling the strings from behind the curtain, designing every scene and making sure that things play out according to his grand design.
The Last Showing is released in the US on VOD 23 September 2014, with DVD and Blu-Ray premiering 28 October.
