It's a beautiful day people! It's not very common to wake up, check your initial facebook timeline and realize the first official photo for Superman in the upcoming Dawn Of Justice has been released. Yes, maybe not as expected as Affleck's first look, but it's always nice to see new material of the movie we all want to watch, since Snyder did that amazing announcement at the past San Diego Comic Con.
So, what's your first impression? I think it's pretty damn cool. I mean, I wasn't expecting big changes in Cavill's costume or appearence, but after the "sad" pose Batman had in his picture, it's awesome to see Superman in the overwhelming attitude he has always had. However, the photo Warner Bros. published in the official Twitter account for the movie gives us enough material to get calm a few days and analyze it over and over.

So, after watching the details, here are 5 elements we all need to notice in the picture that could give us some clues of the blockbuster to be premiered on 2016. Ready? If I missed anything feel free to leave suggestions and comments below. And here we go!
1. Color v B&W
This can't be a coincidence. Zack Snyder will go th the very classic origin on why Batman and Superman have hated each other forever, but eventually forced to work together for a greater good. Even in this times, when all superhero movies have gone in the Nolan's fashion, making them darker than they really are, you can't really make Superman COMPLETELY dark, it's almost impossible. Superman, as an icon, has always been light, hope, a modern symbol of justice and great power. Batman is just the opposite. He has never been a symbol of hope, but of revenge (maybe misunderstood) and deep pain.
Their personalities are soooo different, that their dialogues and actions together are always interesting, how will these great minds collide, and then, work together against a bigger threat than themselves? Yes people, this is gonna be freakin' good!
2. That ain't Metropolis!
Although Metropolis got devastated at the end of Man of Steel, Snyder showed us a very cool and modern city, that looks like a capital one in development, buildings in construction (Lexcorp's) that give the idea Metropolis was living a prosperity time with a promising future before the aliens arrival.
Today, we may have not only the first look at Superman, but also to Gotham City as well. It's clear Clark is not standing in a Metropolis roof, the cloudy, rainy and dirty background can only belong to one of the most decadent cities in the US.
If I'm right, Snyder has chosen to create a very new age Gotham, very in the Arkham videogames look, a city that has become a mud hole: polluted by industry (those steam pipes on the left) and dominated by fear and crime. Has Superman realized this and has gone to Gothatm to "help" the mysterious guy in charge of justice? Why is Clark in Gotham? Will this be the arena for the epic fight? Man I don't know everything!
3. Glasses or Attitude?
Before the Man of Steel premiere, one of the biggest questions was how Snyder would solve the eternal Clark Kent/Superman identity problem, thinking that a pair of glasses would not hide this alien in the real world and would be easily recognised. Finally, Snyder opted for giving us a Clark Kent that used glasses indeed, and even when we saw only a glimpse of his phase as journalist, it's clear he will use this position more wisely than in previous films.
So far, we have already seen Cavill as Clark and Superman, and it's interesting that his first official photo as the Kent son doesn't feature him with glasses. With a bit of luck Snyder will use a dramatic change of personality between Superman and Clark instead of just wearing glasses to make a difference, and at the same time, to fully exploit the potential that Henry has as an actor. Cavill will have to earn his space in screen among Ben Affleck, who is already a BIG, BIG name to overcome. Which takes us to the next point:
4. Is this a Superman movie?
Is he going to be the villain? If you compare the two faces below, you can see Superman is a bit concerned/angry in the latter, he hasn't the classic heroic look. It reminds me the kind of Superman I would see at Injustice: Gods Among Us or The Dark Knight Returns.
When initially announced, it was clear this was going to be a Superman movie that will feature for the first time Batman in the story. However, with the pass of months, it's now unclear if Superman is going to be actually the main character in Dawn of Justice, now that [Aquaman](movie:264237), Wonder Woman and Cyborg have been added to the plot.
After the leak of a possible line-up for future DC movies, there's one called Man of Steel 2, which could tell us the movie we expect for 2016 is just going to be a bridge to the spectacular [Justice League](movie:401267) film. Deep inide of me, I hope Superman gets the protagonism this time again, I thing Snyder did an amazing job in Man of Steel, and there are a lot of creative space to take this new Superman to new experiences. This first look suggests it, Henry Cavill will have the main role again. Let's cross fingers.
5. It's raining
Now that Bruce Wayne is entering into Zack's Universe, there have been statements saying that we will see an old and not very happy Batman; we will have a darker and more violent detective. By the time Man of Steel happens, Bruce has already spent a while cleaning Gotham streets, so there aren't lots of possibilities for watching an origin story this time.
So, how could Snyder explain this background to present his version of the Batman? I think I have the answer:
It's a risky option, but connecting this universe to the TV extended world with Arrow and the upcoming Gotham is not a crazy idea. Marvel has done it ([Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.](series:722469)) and it works, but it can work better with DC characters.
Remember that first photo of Superman? And that awesome logo for Gotham series? Yep, it's raining in both.
But what if it's not rain, but snow what falls in Gotham? I will let you answer that, but even for a non-comic reader the answer it's both obvious and exciting, don't you think?
[Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice](movie:711870) will hit theaters on May 6th, 2016, starring Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons and Gal Gadot.
