I've read a lot about people saying that Sony should give the Spider-Man rights back to Marvel because they could handle it a lot better. This article is about how I believe that if Marvel got him back it'd be very similar to what [The Amazing Spider-Man](movie:45497) series has given us so far. TASM series is following the comics a lot more closely than the original Spider-Man trilogy, which is something Marvel Studios would do as well.

1. The Title:

"The Amazing Spider-Man" is a title that Marvel Studios would have definitely used in one of their films, especially to distance itself from the other films (Example: Marvel named the reboot of Hulk, The Incredible Hulk) I even think that The Amazing Spider-Man films will eventually crossover with the MCU films. Here's an article I wrote on that if you want to read it.

2. Cocky Jokester Spider-Man:

This is something that was lacking in the originals, sure Spider-Man looked great in his costume and swinging around the city but one of his biggest attributes was missing. Sony added it and it made it much better, Marvel Studios would have done this as well.

3. Peter the Science Nerd:

In the originals we see Peter meet the brilliant minds of Norman Osborn, Curt Connors, and Otto Octavius, but not once do we see Peter actually help them out with Science. In TASM Peter helps out Dr. Connors at Oscorp.

4. Outcast to Outgoing:

This is something the original got right as well, but where the original failed is that after Peter becomes Spider-Man he gets a confidence he never had before. We see this in TASM and Marvel would have done this as well.

5. The Costume:

The costume for TASM films, especially the 2nd one, is a lot better than the originals costume and when you look at his costume it's like Spider-Man jumped out of the comic book and onto the screen (much like Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow, Nick Fury, and Captain America in [The Avengers](movie:9040))

6. Web Shooters:

This is what makes the Spider-Man in the comics really cool, he has to create web shooters to actually shoot web like a spider. It makes him more human, and we see this in TASM series and it pays off.

7. Use of Different Villains:

So far in TASM series we have seen The Lizard, Electro, Rhino, and The Green Goblin and we've had hints at Alistair Smythe, Black Cat, Doc Ock, The Vulture, Venom, and Morbius. They're using more villains and expanding their universe with every movie. Much like what Marvel Studios does.

8. The Vault and Ravencroft Institute:

They didn't make up some prison name for their series, they actually took 2 well known Marvel Comics facilities and introduced them into the films.

9. Norman Osborn not first villain of Spider-Man:

I understand why they did it in the original Spider-Man, but if you're planning a movie series you should try to save the best for last and TASM series seems to be saving Norman's Goblin for later (he is not really dead)

10. Better Harry Osborn/Green Goblin:

Dane DeHaan gives us a better/closer interpretation of Harry/Goblin than James Franco did.

11. J. Jonah Jameson Not Introduced Right Away:

When I first saw TASM and I saw the Daily Bugle paper and then Peter was starting to take photos of the Lizard I thought we might see Jameson in the film and I was relieved when we didn't. I think it would have been too soon, and I liked how in the second one it shows Peter emailing him. He should be introduced in the 3rd film and he should definitely be played by J.K Simmons again. In fact they can take the whole Daily Bugle set from the original films, they absolutely nailed that part.

12. Uncle Ben More Important:

Uncle Ben has a bigger impact on Peter in this series. In the original Uncle Ben dies and then it skips ahead to his graduation, I think that was a big mistake. In TASM we see him dealing with Uncle Ben's death, and he still hasn't caught his killer.

13. Aunt May More Important:

Aunt May is given a more important role and feels more like a mother to Peter and we know that she knows that Peter is Spider-Man but she doesn't tell him because it's for the better.

14. We learn more about Peter's Parents:

This is something else that I felt was missing from the originals, Peter never seems to have a desire to find out about his parents. I really like that we see that in TASM films.

15. George Stacy:

Captain Stacy is handled a lot better than in Spider-Man 3, he has more significance and actually has a story arc. We also see the impact he has on Peter.

16. Gwen Stacy:

We see Gwen as Peter's first love which is the way it should be, and we get to see her story unfold and it is wonderful yet also tragic to watch.

17. Mary Jane Not Introduced Right Away:

Mary Jane should be the 2nd or 3rd love of Peter's life and that seems to be where the series is going. I'm glad she was cut out of [The Amazing Spider-Man 2](movie:508593) because it would have been too soon.

18. Adapting Comic Book Storylines - Death of the Stacy's:

The 2 films in TASM series have stuck very closely to the comics and have told 2 of the most important stories that shape the character into who he is. Marvel Studios does this with their films as well (Iron Man's origin, Captain America's origin, Hulk's origin, Loki being The Avengers first villain, Adapting The Winter Soldier story)

19. Easter Eggs:

In TASM films there are Easter Eggs for fans of the character. Marvel Studios started the trend of putting multiple Easter Eggs in comic book films and now Sony is doing the same for Spider-Man.

20. The Sinister Six:

TASM films have been leading to one big event (much like The Avengers and Thanos) The [Sinister Six](movie:1274281). Seeing Spidey fight 6 super villains who have teamed up will be something we have never seen on film before.

As you can see, there is really nothing different that Marvel could do that Sony isn't doing right now with TASM series except to put him in The Avengers films, which would be pretty great. I would also like to say that I do not hate the original trilogy at all, I really respect it. Just because I like the new ones more doesn't mean I have to hate the old ones. For a while Spider-Man 2 was my favorite superhero film and it is still a good film, I just find the new ones to be better.

Do you think Marvel would handle Spider-Man better?
