Fantastic Beasts & Where To Find Them, the Harry Potter spinoff trilogy that Warner Bros is preparing to bring to the screen, is now set to film at their Levesden Studios in the UK. What's cool about that? Well, it also happens to be the studio used for all of the other Harry Potter films. So fan worried that there wouldn't be enough of a Potter feel to the films- which take place a whole 70 years before the exploits we saw in the original films- need not worry.
Also notable for the productions is that they will mark Potter author J.K. Rowling's first work as a screenwriter. The studio is entrusting her with adapting the story of Newt Scamander's adventures for the big screen. "Set in the wizarding world, the story will feature magical creatures and characters, some of which will be familiar to devoted Harry Potter fans," Warner CEO Kevin Tsujihara has said.
David Heyman, who was heavily involved with the original franchise, is back to produce Fantastic Beasts. As of now, there is still no director and no start date for the production. There had been talk that Alfonso Cuarón was going to be lured back to the Potter universe, but the Mexican filmmaker came out and said that he's going to take a break from effects-heavy films.
Pretty cool, though. Rowling at the keyboard, Heyman in the producer's chair, and filming at Levesden. Looks like they're going to try to do this right.
