Now, I know there is no denying the fact that the movie franchise has been a massive success and grossed billions through the first four movies, but as a person who grew up with the 1980's cartoon series I find my childhood memories tainted a little more with each movie. So here are some things I wish either never happened and things I wish did happen.
First off, I wish they had included a proper base of operations for the Autobots and Decepticons. When I say that I do not mean a base of operations which is just a military hanger. If you are unfirmiliar with the 1980's cartoon the Autobots and Decepticons arrived on earth thousands of years before mankind even evolved. The Ark crashed into a prehistoric earth at the base of a volcano and in the crash both the Autobots and Decpeticons went into stasis lock. When the volcano erupted in 1984 it set the whole war back into motion with Earth now as the stage. The Ark would have been a brilliant base for the Autobots to have ran out of and we would have seen more Cybertronian technology.
Then by the end of movie 2 the Ark could have been destroyed leaving the Autobots only 1 option...to build Autobot City.
Autobot City is a metropolis for the giant Autobots to call home on Earth. Now this is a city built by transformers so this can only mean one thing...yes you guessed it correctly, it transforms! Not into a giant robot, that is a different city called Metroplex, but Autobot City has the ability to turn into a battle fortress complete with shielding and a lot of artillary. So we would also have a fantastic option for a Autobot/Decpeticon battle to take place. Below is a video from the Transformers Movie of Autobot city transforming and being used for a dramatic battle. This version has had footage from the series added to the sequence for which is apologize but I could not find a video of just the movie footage.
If the cartoon series can make for a brilliant battle at Autobot City imagine what they could do in a live action movie.
The Decepticons would be best off using the most famous Decpeticon ship in the whole franchise, the Nemesis. With it being an intergalactic warship it would give the Decepticons a greater edge in the films and allow for some Transformers space exploration something the 1980's series truly expanded on during its run.
Now something you all probably have started thinking is in the movies the Transformers are a big secret up until the 3rd film. Well in the 1980's there was never any secret as the Decepticons were never covert in their attacks and did not care how many humans saw them as they were no match for them. So another part I wish they had done is gone with public knowledge being established in the first film. Despite the public damage done during battles the humans knew the Autobots were their only hope and the Autobots also helped them advance technologically in more ways than what have been explored in the live action films.
I would also like less of the new original characters made for the movies and more of the already fan favourite establish Transformers to appear. It would also be nice if the fan favourites were used properly. For example, Arcee.
There is some confusion over this character from the live action movies. Some sources say it is one character with 3 bodies and others identify them as 3 sisters Chromia, Arcee and Elita One. Either option is highly annoying for these reasons. Arcee is perhaps the most famous female Transformer but she was not the first introduced. Chromia and Elita One both enter the show before Arcee.
The female Autobots stayed on Cybertron to wage a gorilla style warfare on the Decepticons who occupied the planet. Elita One was their leader and partner of Optimus Prime. So she was basically his female counterpart. Now personally I would have preferred this Elita One.
Arcee on the other hand was extremely close to Rodimus Prime the Prime that took over after Optimus's death. This made her one of the more central new generation characters of the 1980's series so I never understood why Bay only gave her about 2 minutes of footage. She is only one of many characters that Bay has done this to, giving them a completely different style to their original and then kind of slapping the 1980's fans in the face with his new creation.
Instead of his own created characters he should use the characters they are based on. For example Dino and Que from Transformers 3. They were based on Mirage and Wheeljack.
Mirage was extremely helpful as he had an ability no other Autobot had, he could turn himself invisible. This allowed him on many occasions to get behind enemy lines and gather information or sabotage the Decepticon's plans. He also Transformed into a formula one car which made him one of the fastest Autobots on Optimus Prime's army.
Wheeljack was the wacky inventor of the show and provided a lot of comic relief much like Que did in Transformers 3. But his inventions had more of a habit of going wrong and then succeeding at the last minute. Also when he spoke the 2 panels on the side of his head lit up much like a Dalek does on Doctor Who which made him different from the other Autobots. If the pair had remained more true to their cartoon counterparts they would have been used much more effectively in the movie franchise.
He has also altered with a lot of origins of characters also. In the 1980 the Dinobots were created on Earth with help from the humans to help the Autobots better understand their new world. The Dinobots where never the brightest Bots on the show but they always made an episode more entertaining with their simple dialogue and more aggressive fighting style. This next part is presented as a spoiler due to some information of Transformers 4 being contained within.
Now in Transformers 4 they have been given a new origin as ancient Cybertronian warriors and only 2 of the original 5 are in the film. Now for some this may not seem that bad but for me it is a bit like them taking Hulk, Thor, Captain America and Ironman out of the Avengers and leaving Hawkeye and Black Widow.
Then their is also Galvatron. Galvatron is Megatron but he is basically his upgrade given to him by an all might force which consumes planets called Unicron. Galvatron was an unwilling puppet and even tried to destroy his master, but in the end the Autobots did it for him. Once free he ruled the Decepticons again with an even more sinister might than Megatron. Again this next part is presented as a spoiler due to some information of Transformers 4 being contained within.
Now in Transformers 4 he is a human created robot. Yeah sounds familiar to me also. But he is taken over by Megatron allowing Megatron to ressurect himself in a new body. Now if the had Galvatron be an ancient Depecticon returning from the depths of space I could have coped with that as they could have still brought Unicron into it as his creator. But instead they mess with his origin and the Dinobots.
Now I don't think I can avoid it any longer...Shia Labeouf.
Now yes in the first movie I could understand him freaking out due to giant robots trying to kill him, it is completely understandable, but by number 3 he seems to freak out to an even greater extent than he did in either of the first 2 films. Add to that the temper tantrums induced throughout the film was also painful. He was like a screaming child stomping his foots and making the vanes on his neck pop out as he strains to scream as hard as he can. He did great shame to whom his character was based on which was Spike Witwicky.
Spike Witwicky enters as a 14 year old working with his dad on an oil rig. He and his dad Sparkplug began good allies to the Autobots and Spike was partnered with Bumblebee. Their names may sound strange but they were related to working on an oil rig so I completely understand why they changed it to Sam. However as the show progressed you was Spike mature, face his fears, get married and even has a son called Daniel. If they followed this character more closely Sam would have been a lot less irritating.
Now I have to mention the Matix of Leadership.
In the 1980's series the Matrix was the crown of the Autobots. Basically when a Prime would die he would pass the Matrix on to his chosen successor. But sometimes the Matrix would choose its successor instead. Below you can see Optimus pass the Matrix on before he dies.
Now as you saw the Matrix chose Hot Rod instead of Ultra Magnus. The Matrix also had phenomenal power. Yes in the live action the Matrix can bring a Transformers back to life which is pretty powerful.
But in the 1980's series it had the power to light the Autobots darkest hour if opened by a Prime. If you don't believe me, see for yourself you will also see the birth of a new Prime.
OK yeah peace didn't live for long, but you can not deny that was some power contained within a tiny little glowing box. Once it was opened it was said that it would slowly begin to fill again so they just have to hope they don't have another darkest hour until it is full again.
My final segment is a wish part for what I hope they do not ruin in future instalments. The first is the creators of the Transformers. The Quintessons.
The Quintessons consist of many types, the leaders are a group called the Judges. The judges, pictures above, consist of 5 faces and each face represents a different aspect. The 5 consist of Doubt/Judgement, Bitterness/Wisdom, Laughter/War, Rage/Wrath and Death. They judge others and feed the guilty to their Sharkticons.
They have many working for them including exrcutioners, baliffs, prosecutors and scientists but there muscle is the Sharkticons. They created the Transformers as 2 seperate lines. One was a commercial line and the other a military line. Instead of me explaining all the history please enjoy this video.
I love the origin story they used in the 1980's series. It made complete sense of having the 2 separate manufactured lines and how the 2 ended up in a war against each other.
And the final hope is if they bring the planet eating Transformer Unicron into the live action movie franchise they keep him as true to the 1980's version as possible. He is easily the largest Transformer ever and words can not describe his power so I shall let my final video speak for itself.
Just my final note to some. As you can see the 1980's series that gave birth to the whole franchise had many angles and aspects that made fan loyal as they are still to this day. So maybe you can also understand why some of us are so passionate when it comes to the changes in the live action franchise. Thank you for reading and please comment on anything you wish was changed or different
