It's been thirteen long and fruitful years since the first Lord of the Rings film hit theaters, but the time has finally come to say goodbye to Middle-earth, with The Battle of the Five armies set to storm into theaters on December 17.
Along the journey, much has been made about the director's decision to split Tolkien's diminutive Hobbit into three films. There have been some big changes during Peter Jackson's filming: we've seen some unnecessary padding which served no purpose other than to give Elijah Wood some screen time, we've encountered The Desolation of Smaug fleshed out with a pretty unnecessary love story, and - most recently - die-hard fans were outraged to hear that the latest Hobbit movie might see Thorin Oakenshield, King of the Dwarves, survive the fate afforded to him by Tolkien!
Still, cautiousness aside, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies is certainly impressing some insiders! In fact, Wood - best known to you and I as Hobbiton resident Frodo - sat down with Empire for an interview and said THIS when prodded about The Hobbit secrets:
I kinda don’t have anything. *pause* I know how it ends... That is actually a secret I do hold. So I do know that. And it’s great. Oh, it’s good. It’s really good.
And I'm inclined to believe him. Well, Jackson didn't follow Tolkien's Lord of the Rings in many parts, but the end is near and I trust PJ. Period. We're going There and Back Again for the very last time. Let's enjoy the moment, folks...
Do you believe Elijah Wood about The Battle of the Five Armies?
