Entertainment Weekly is jumping on board the Guardians train with the July issue, featuring an interview and photoshoot with Chris Pratt, as well as a video interview with Zoe Saldana on the website.

From the interview quotes that I read on the site, it looks like this isn't going to be my kind of Q&A; the majority are focusing on Pratt's career as an actor, rather than the role of StarLord. While I know that there are many people who love getting to know the "real person" behind the name, it's really not my thing. I'm not too interested in how many calories Chris Pratt is consuming, or how his wife feels about him kissing other women on-screen.

'Listen, you're eating 2,000, 1500 calories a day. You need to be eating 4,000 calories a day, you need to be eating 5,000 calories a day....I'm not going to immediately gain fat because I'm not starving myself. I'm just burning the fires really hot.

Now that I know he lost weight by upping his metabolism, I can sleep at night! I truly hope that the full article will have a lot more to do with Guardians of the Galaxy than the selected quotes.

Of course, where the interview just doesn't appeal to me (and no judgement if you happen to love that style!) the portrait photoshoot makes up for it, big time! Eight photos are up on the site, and I'm hoping for more in the print issue.

They chose to go full-on Peter Quill with these, and they just look incredible! Pratt is in his signature outfit from the movie - or at least, that red leather jacket and the StarLord boots, and it looks like he may have brought in some props from the set too! (Seeing as the film is wrapped, I wonder if he maybe even borrowed some of these as souvenirs? Wouldn't be the first time things have wandered off set and into a star's home! *cough RDJ *cough Of course, they were probably legitimately handed over just for this shoot, but it's fun to think otherwise sometimes!)

He's got the gun, he's got the walkman...even the helmet gets in this one!! It's really great to see him having some fun and messing around in a few shots - the balance between the funny shots and the action shots really captures the balance between action and comedy that we will see in the film.

But wait! There's more! EW didn't stop with the kind of shots that we would expect to see, they also decided to show us a different side to StarLord...his sexy face!

While we have definitely seen a little flirting with Gamora going on (and that kiss! Can't forget the lean-in, and we know that there is going to be a romantic sub-plot between the two of them.) the trailers haven't exactly painted Quill as a sex object. He's kinda goofy, a little smart mouthed, some elements of the fearless leader and adventurer, but so far, only a little of the love interest angle.

He's definitely got some smoulder happening in this shot, and although he still doesn't seem to be taking himself too seriously, it does make me wonder how much of this we will see in the film. I have no problem with some superhero eye candy, but I do hope that it isn't made into too big a part of his character. I have faith that Marvel will strike the right balance.

Of course, that's not the only sexy shot EW took; when in doubt, have the attractive person cuddle up to a small furry creature. Hearts are guaranteed to melt!

Oh my god, he is snuggling a baby raccoon!!! The furball actually steals the shot a little - just look at that tiny face! I can only imagine the squeals around the set when this little guy was brought in. (Although as adorable as he is, don't let Rocket see these! I doubt he would find this nod to his character quite fitting...)

As well as the snuggly side of StarLord, EW got Zoe Saldana to open up about the soft center she finds in Gamora.

They're renegades, they're radicals, their goals are revenge and money and freedom. But deep down, they want to belong to a family.

Gamora can kill you, but she has a heart of gold, and I like that about her.

I love that Zoe Saldana has clearly really got into her character, and found a way to make her vulnerable as well as a ruthless assassin.

I think that even this brief interview shows us that we are going to get some real development in Gamora throughout the film, that we will see her opening up as the team becomes closer. I hope that we will see this in ways other than just her relationship with Peter Quill; as much as I think that theirs will be a great side story, I want to see more than the stereotypical opening-up-by-letting-love-in.

I would like to see all of her relationships develop as she becomes softer and more trusting, not just change within a romantic relationship. Fingers crossed that this happens - so far it does seem like there is some great character depth and development, so it's looking promising!

Watch the full video interview with Zoe Saldana here! (Under "videos" - apologies, there appears to be no direct link!)

I find it really interesting that EW took both of these lead characters and chose to focus on their softer sides - maybe because it isn't an angle that has been explored as fully in previous interviews, maybe because this is something that we are going to see a lot more of in the film than in the trailers, or maybe just because they felt that it would appeal most to their audience! (I know that those baby raccoon photos are definitely my cup of tea!)

What do you think? Are you excited to see more romance and vulnerability in the characters, or were you really just looking forward to a funny shoot 'em up?
Comment and let me know what you think!
