Now, let me be clear… That’s not to say that I don’t want to win an Emmy. I absolutely do. More than anything. Any artist who tells you they don’t want to be acknowledged and awarded by their peers is a fat fucking liar. I’m not sure why they have to be fat, but you get the point.

Kurt Sutter was asked recently by Nikki Finke to write a response to his supposed Emmy snub for season 6 of [Sons of Anarchy](series:201186). By giving Sutter the chance to write his letter, they're giving a man, who's very conscious of his image, a chance to try and further this badass image he has tried to create around himself.

I’m halfway through my second paragraph and I haven’t called anyone at AMC a money-whoring, talentless c–t yet. So, that’s progress, right?

I don't think it's progress at all. I mean Hollywood is as political as it gets and the only reason his distributers let him away with this stuff is because it's more publicity. Some guy picks up the story and writes "OMG Kurt Sutter calls out AMC", which'll naturally receive it's clicks and get more publicity for his show. Whether he realises it or not, he's part of FX's machine. Dropping statements like this plays up to the image, gets the ratings and essentially sells the show. A philosophy that Sutter himself, ironically, would probably claim not to stand for.

He claims the Emmys are like a stereotypical jocks party at high school saying that people who go to the awards:

rush to fill in circles for friends and shows they’ve seen once or twice or ‘heard’ were really good.

Sounds to me like he's spit the dummy. It really is one or the other. You want an award, or you don't. He admits he is a 'loud loser' in order to garner some 'infamy'. I really don't get this guy sometimes.

My bombastic outlaw-asshole reputation would be tarnished. Or rather, untarnished. I’d be just another smiling douchebag in a new suit, pretending to give a shit on the red carpet. Actually…taking a shit on the red carpet, that’s something that might drop as a ‘real and honest moment.

This way of talking, in Sutter's eyes, is a freedom and an 'I can do whatever the fuck I want' type attitude when in fact it's the opposite. He's a slave to the image and confined to thinking all the time; 'What would Kurt do?'.

I repeat:

taking a shit on the red carpet

C'mon Kurt, as if taking a shit on the red carpet is going to do anything other than make you look like an attention seeking narcissist.

I repeat:

My bombastic outlaw asshole reputation

This really does show that the man is very conscious of what he is doing. Reputations are given to you by other people, you can't just wake up one day and say okay, I'm this guy today; this is pretence not reputation.

The guy has a badass show and that should be enough, but something, lots of things, tell me that it's not.

I give it over to you guys. This is just my opinion, what's yours?

Would the Emmys tarnish Sutters "Bombastic Outlaw Reputation"?
