People often judge celebrities, but anyone who cares about real kindness knows that Robert Downey Jr is a warm-hearted guy.
In the 90s, Dana Reinhardt took her grandmother to an event to honor Vietnam veterans. Sadly, her grandmother - a proud lady in her 80's - tripped on a disabled access ramp and badly cut her leg.
Frightened by the blood, Dana was frozen in panic. Luckily, Robert Downey Jr stepped in to help. Cool-headed RDJ arranged an ambulance, a blanket and a drink of water, all while keeping the injured lady calm.
Then, Robert took off his pale linen jacket and wrapped it around the heavily bleeding wound until medical help arrived.
Now, this was the 90's, when Robert Downey Jr was suffering highly-publicized problems of his own with addiction. His kindness goes to show that you should never judge people.
The part I found the most moving about this amazing story happened 15 years later. Dana ran into RDJ in L.A. and decided to thank him for his act of kindness towards a brave old lady.
She nervously asked him if he remembered and thanked him from the bottom of her heart.
Robert got to his feet and grasped Dana by the hands, saying:
You have absolutely no idea how much I needed to hear that today.
