President Obama got a few laughs when he announced that an Iron Man suit was being worked on back in February. The U.S special operating command has hired Hollywood special effects company Legacy Effects to help design and create a real life Iron Man suit for the military. This is the same company that helped create the Iron Man suits for the two sequels, [The Avengers](movie:9040), and for the Robocop suit for the reboot and the full size sentinels used in [X-Men: Days Of Future Past](movie:203942). The idea is to create an exoskeleton that could not only protect the soldiers from gun fire but also allow them increased strength to carry the 400 lb.
The project is known as T.A.L.O.S short for Tactical Assault Light Operator Suit. The government hopes to have the next generation armor built within the next four years. There are still a lot of hurdles to jump through before a real life Iron Man suit is even possible most knowable a power source to run the suit. We all know that Stark accomplished powering his suit with the help of his arch reactor. The Pentagon estimates that the batteries needed to power the suit would weight at least 365 lb with current technology.
