spider-man, the original Sam raimi movie which started the trilogy also started the rest of the best marvel movies ever made. it had that comic book flair to it, the cheeriness then the vengeful peter Parker and then finally into spider-man, this film had great villains and portrayals are probably some of the best in any marvel movie. then in 2012 they rebooted the whole franchise just to right the wrongs of the unsuccessful finale, spider-man 3. this time they added more elements to it so it fits into the modern world and created their own version of the famous hero to go with a new story. but how do these films fare off when they are against each other. which is better?
(please note, i have used the idea of movies going against each other from the YouTube channel, MOVIE FEUDS, but have done done it in a different style and have got my own ideas entirely, i will sometimes come up with my own movie battle idea, but also sometimes use their battle example as a point of feud.)
while still having the same outline, these movies play out different from the villain parts and they tweak little parts to tell the story in a different way. spider-man 1 establishes the reaction of spider-man more, while in the amazing spiderman, it shows him more trying to manage with the power of a spider. they both have a love story in them to vamp up the emotion pact. the amazing spider-man seems like he needs to fight for his girlfriend more and there is a higher risk as gwen's farther has doubts about spiderman and then dies and tells him to promise to him that he keeps Gwen safe. the relationship between peter and Dr curt conners is great to see as it drifts from teacher to beater. however, they always say the originals are always better, spider-man has the element of protecting Mary Jane, to trying to impress j. Jonah. Jameson and overcoming the green goblin. the friendship between harry and peter is also very heart-warming as you see it progress, so due to all the above and the nice and bubbly mood of this better half, spider-man wins this round.
both the actors who own this part did a amazing job with showing the personality of spider-man. Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield pulled the part so well and both deserve this point, but it has to be boiled down to one. maguire's performance was more of a nerd trying to get a girl and then having a responsibility to pay once uncle Ben had died, while Garfield's was a troubled teen trying to search into and get a grip of the death of his farther, which added more depth to the motivations of spiderman. The persona of spiderman alone is owned by Maguire as he seems more heroic as he saves the kids from the burning building and the people at the parade, while Andrew's is just more of a defeating the enemy-save the girlfriend scenario, so this point goes to spiderman 1
so there's the performance of the green goblin and the lizard. i personally enjoyed green goblins transference into the monster he becomes more than the lizards. and it is better viewing green goblin as he plots his plans to break down spiderman and try to get him on the bad side. the relationship between Norman and peter plays into it well as, they are impressed by each others intelligence, while on the alter-ego side, they are unknowingly fighting the same person they are great friends with just with a suit on. he also gets more screen time than the lizard so it seems better for the story to build on the goblin parts.
spider-man 1 was more action packed as throughout the most part of the movie, spiderman is constantly fighting threats, while in T.A.S the lizard comes into it more near the end and it is not that memorable, while they do it so well in S1.
in terms of spectacle the amazing spiderman beats the original. the CGI is on a high as the city looks great on the eyes and the suit is a wonder. the camera angles in the original are ground braking, but as this is the superhero/ action genre, the amazing spiderman is best in that aspect.
winner: the amazing spiderman
the infamous voice-over of peter Parker and the sight of him running after the bus, showing the nerdy boy he is at the moment to show the differences between peter and his alter ego. that is one of the best opening scenes in my book, but the scene which begins T.A.S adds a lot of depth to peter Parker as it shows peter's parents leave his life which we didn't see in the Sam raimi trilogy
winner: amazing spiderman
this one was very hard to decide on as they are both different ways to end the films but the original has the grief of harry is shown which leads to the next film, while the death of Gwen Stacy's dad sets up the next movie with the promise to keep Gwen safe( and we all know how that turned out!), in terms of spectacle i love the scene where both the protagonist and the antagonist realize that they have been fighting the same person they admire all along, which is in spiderman 1, and it raises the emotion and the last bit of peter Parker saying his voice-over lines is a great and satisfying ending.
by far the soundtrack to the original is catchy and easily recognizable and is a pleasure to hear.
cinnamasins sin count
this round is based on how many sins the film got from cinnemasins, so whichever got the least sins gets the point. this one was 115 which was surprisingly from S1, while the amazing spiderman just got 53
winner: the amazing spiderman
Easter eggs/ post-credits scene/ cameos
the original spider-man movie beats the amazing spider-man because it has a lot more cameo appearances, while the amazing spiderman has a post-credits scene, which spiderman 1 doesn't have one. the appearances include: "macho man" randy savage as the wrestler bone-saw, who gets surprisingly defeated by spiderman when he first starts becoming spider-man. another is Bruce cambell as the ring announcer, Ted raimi as Hoffman the assistant, Sam raimi who throws popcorn at peter when he tries out wrestling, Stan lee who saves a girl from falling debris in the times square, macy gray and Lucy lawless who are both singers in the parade in times square and octavia Spencer as the woman who signs and warns peter on the wrestling competition. The one important cameo appearance in the amazing spider-man is Stan lee who is a librarian, who has music on in his headphones as he stamps books who doesn't realize anything what is happening around him. The post-credits scene is where we see DR. curt conners in a prison cell, where he speaks to a man in the shadows. the man says " does peter know the truth about his dad" and conners says "no" and he demands the man not to hurt peter, but he is already gone. this to me is better to me than just a few little cameos, which are just for references to previous films, while a post-credit scene is more crucial to later movies, so they are more important and since spiderman does not have one and only the amazing spiderman does, the amazing spiderman gets the points.
winner: the amazing spider-man
the winner is.................................... spiderman!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
spiderman 1 beat the amazing spiderman by 2 points with spiderman 1 having 6 points and the amazing spiderman having 4 points
despite the lack of CGI and a post-credit scene, spiderman is better with a superior story, great character portrayals, quick action, unique soundtrack and iconic ending.
