The trailer for the new Abel Ferrara movie entitled [Welcome to New York](movie:1282565) has just dropped online.
Check it out below:
The movie is based on the controversial court case of Dominique Strauss-Kahn who was accused of rape and assault in a New York hotel. The movie stars french actor Gerard Depardieu in the leading role.
The movie follows billionaire Mr. Devereaux, a very powerful business man who controls the fate of nations on a daily basis. His Achilles heel is his unbridled sexual hunger and, much like Ferrara's Bad Lieutenant, we'll see the man try and either deal with or embrace his problems as the potential of a tragic downfall looms.
This movie marks the first film for the Spanish writer/director in almost four years and if this trailer is anything to go by, he is back to the themes that have popularized him.
According to one of the producers of the movie, the film struggled to find both American and French distributors. Failing to get a place at the Cannes film festival, the movie then went the VOD direction and was made available online.
IFC recently picked the film up and are now in charge of censoring the film and distribution.
