On November 7th, the movie "Interstellar" will be released in the United States. This film is most famously known for being directed by Christopher Nolan, who has worked on masterpieces such as the Dark Knight trilogy. However, the movie should be a success for multiple reasons. Interstellar will be a revolutionary film as it is exploring the world of science, a creative premise, and has a fantastic cast and crew to support all of this.
The Science of Interstellar
[Interstellar](movie:813746) is supposed to explore the world of science like no other film has before. If this is successful, the introduction of science into film could be an interesting combination moving forward.
First, the film has a realistic issue in that climate change could be our world's downfall. Our planet is already facing climate change and this movie could be showing the consequences of letting that happen. Agriculture will be effected negatively, and resources are being used up by nations with large populations. The expanding population globally is consuming more resources, and eventually we will have to turn to alternatives.
Second, in the trailer there is an interesting scene that they use at about 1:54 in.
This has a very similar look to a gravitational lens picture taken by the Hubble Space Telescope, seen here.
Could Interstellar possibly be thinking about realistic warp travel? Warp travel sound familiar? Yes, the same travel used in Star Trek! Unfortunately, with our technology, warp travel is impossible. Warp travel breaks the law of physics, and the 11th commandment; thou shall not exceed the speed of light. However there is still hope for alternatives. Christopher Nolan, director, has apparently spoken to aerospace and astrophysicists about a realistic way to travel extremely fast. This film may be influential to and push efforts to study high speed travel and make warp travel alternatives possible.
Christopher Nolan's Creative Premise
Interstellar's plot seems relatively simple; there is a global food crisis due to a lack of resources because of climate change. This indicates it will be impossible for humans to survive on Earth, so a team goes out into space to save humanity. Well, the premise of Interstellar is a little bit more complicated. The main character, Cooper, played by Matthew McConaughey, has to make the tough decision to leave his family to go on this trip into space, not knowing if he will ever see them again. Obviously there will be an internal struggle as he leads their voyage into the unknown. Speaking of the unknown, probably the most interesting part of the film's premise is that they are going into the unknown! No one knows what to expect which gives the film the opportunity to be creative with what happens while they are in space.
Also, there is the idea that humans may not need to be on Earth anymore. Maybe humans were meant to leave Earth, and expand into other places of the universe. Maybe the end of our planet may be the waking up call to live somewhere else.
"Mankind was born on Earth. It was never meant to die here."
The Extensive Cast and Crew
The cast of Interstellar is quite large and carries a lot of talent. The actors and actresses involved are among the best there is and will make the film even better. Because of the cast and interesting plot, this movie will be competing for awards. The cast ranges from the usual Nolan cast to experienced faces to actors trying to make a name for themselves.
Interstellar's crew is very talented as well. Being directed by Christopher Nolan, there is a very experienced crew. They have worked on several masterpieces such as Inception and Memento.
Overall, Interstellar has every reason to be successful and every opportunity to do something new and creative. It could very well be one of the biggest films of the year and years to come.
