Monday July 14, 2014: Every comic book fan caught word of Marvel's big announcement to be debuted on The View for Tuesday's show. There was heavy speculation of it being related to the Marvel Cinematic Universe - whether it be Avengers news, or news about upcoming movies. Marvel's panel for Comic-con 2014 is on Saturday July 26, 2014 so you could understand the assumptions.

Tuesday, July 15, 2014: ABC's The View released the news to the world that Thor will no longer be worthy of Mjolnir, and that the title and possession of the legendary hammer will be passed on to a female character.

It’s a huge day in the Marvel Universe. Thor, the God of Thunder, he messed up, and he’s no longer worthy to hold that damn hammer of his. For the first time in history, that hammer is being held by a woman. That’s right. Thor is a woman! - Whoopi Goldberg

Now, while there are mixed reviews about the news, there is something that will undoubtedly be affected by this comic change. The Marvel Cinematic Universe! Thor is presently being played by Chris Hemsworth, and he has been doing a damn good job at it. Thor made his way to the big screen in 2011 with Thor, and was later followed by 2012's The Avengers where his story was the main focus of the film. With the obvious success of [Thor: The Dark World](movie:206462), it is only right that the announcement of Thor 3 was to follow, and will be taken place after next year's [The Avengers: Age Of Ultron](movie:293035). Hemsworth only has 2 more Avengers film and one more Thor film, so that would put his contract expiration date after [The Avengers 3](movie:738027). While he has expressed his feelings on wanting to continue on with the mantle -

“I’ve got three left in my contract – from here on, I have two more Avengers and one more Thor and if people wanted to see more, I’d be happy to keep going,” says Hemsworth. “I love these stories and I love this character. The opportunity has opened up everything for me.” - FlickeringMyth

- could the MCU replace him with a new female lead? Well, if Whedon has his way, it could be a possibility:

If you don't know who this bad ass is, this is Katee Sackhoff. If you saw [Riddick](movie:311824) last year, you might remember her role as Dahl, a bad ass mercenary with an attitude to match. She has an impressive resume and is already a fan favorite to actually play [Ms. Marvel](movie:949779), but she sure has the brawn, and the persona to play the female version of Thor. Now this could just be Whedon being silly, but WHAT IF, what if she were to play the cinematic version of Thor - assuming Hemsworth retires, of course? She has the look, she has the acting skills, and she certainly has the body and action skills to be worthy. I will say this is just speculation, but hey I'm gullible and will believe ANYTHING on the internet, haha. But what about your thoughts?
