Ryan Murphy, creator of the critically acclaimed [American Horror Story](series:206668) series, has tweeted out the first official picture of actress Sarah Paulson as conjoined twins Dot and Bette.

Paulson revealed earlier this year she will be playing conjoined twins Bette and Dot in the latest Carnivàle-esque installment, tweeting out a visual rendering of her dual role.

This is exciting news for the massive fandom of the show. Ryan Murphy is usually elusive and secretive, fond of randomly tweeting out information on the upcoming series or teasing details through various interviews.

He has already confirmed that the series will be the darkest yet, even darker than Asylum but will also maintain the humour seen in the third series, Coven.

I thought it was going to be light but it’s turning out to be quite terrifyingly dark, which it feels much more like the Asylum season. But look — if you have a character named the Clown Killer, it’s going to be dark.

The fourth season will be set in Jupiter, Florida and will be centered around one of the few remaining freak shows of the 1950s, as its members do anything to keep the business alive. The season will focus on the conflict between the freaks and the "evil forces" who do not understand them. Jessica Lange returns as the lead, undertaking the role of a german managing the freak show. Kathy Bates, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Angela Bassett, and Frances Conroy will all return, including Emma Roberts.

Alongside the season regulars, there will be new faces in Michael Chiklis who will be playing the father of Peters's character and the husband of Bates's. Meanwhile, Wes Bentley will appear as a "tormenter" on the two-part Halloween episode.

American Horror Story: Freakshow will premiere on FX in October later this year.
