With a standalone Ben Affleck Batman film most likely coming in the future, after the Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), and the [Justice League](movie:401267) (2017), With Batman's extremely extensive rogues gallery, there are a few options of villains to be in the film.

For this list, I shall be excluding the Joker as a main antagonist, because while he is an amazing character, and my personal favorite villain, I just don't think there should be another portrayal of the Joker so soon after Heath Ledger's version, especially when there is a possibility of the Joker appearing in the [Gotham](series:1127075) TV show.

5. Black Mask

In mainstream Batman media, Black Mask has been under used in my opinion, as in animation and video games, he has only appeared in The Batman, Batman: Arkham Origins and Batman: Under The Hood. While he was supposed to be the main antagonist of Arkham Origins, he was ultimately superseded by the Joker. Given that Black Mask is a mob boss, the film could show a gang war between Black Mask, and possibly either the Falcone Crime Family or the Maroni Crime Family, perhaps even both. There are also stroylines such as the Batman: Battle for the Cowl, where other Batman villains, including Victor Zsasz and Firefly, and this would be a good way to introduce some more lesser known villains, and give those lesser known villains more of the spotlight rather than it always being on Joker, Penguin and Riddler.

4. Deathstroke and Talia Al Ghul

Even though Talia Al Ghul has had recent exposure in [The Dark Knight Rises](movie:39011), and Deathstroke in Arrow, and both of them together in Son of Batman, I think that the Batman and Robin comic storyline could translate well to the big screen. In the Batman and Robin comic book, Deathstroke and Talia Al Ghul are working together, and Deathstroke is attempting to control Robin in order to have him kill Batman. Having this storyline would introduce Robin into the universe and hopefully and Robin be redeemed from Chris O'Donnell's portrayal in Batman Forever and Batman and Robin. With what Deathstroke does to Robin, it would push Batman to the limit in regard to his 'no killing' rule. It would also introduce Deathstroke as a possible 'gun for hire' for a Justice League film, and maybe there could be a link between Arrow and the [Man of Steel](movie:15593) universe with Manu Bennett playing Deathstroke.

3. Injustice Leagueish Thing

Obviously the Injustice League is a group of super villains gathered to destroy the Justice League, however, I think this could possibly be done with just Batman villains with an attempt to destroy Batman. Batman villains have tried to do this before in The Batman, and possibly in Batman: Arkham Knight. I think that this version of an Injustice League could include villains such as Deadshot, Clayface, Killer Croc, Firefly, Electricutioner, Dollmaker, etc. and possibly lead by someone like the Clock King or Calculator. If anyone has watched the Justice League animated series, where Gorilla Grodd formed an Injustice League, with villains including Shade, Star Sapphire, Clayface and Solomon Grundy, where they defeated the Justice League first time round, and then there is soul searching from the League before they defeat the Injustice League when they face them for the second time. They could do a similar type thing with this, however, between the Bat Family, and there could be interesting conflict between the Bat Family, as they figure out how to defeat their adversaries.

2. Red Hood

Jason Todd as the Red Hood
Jason Todd as the Red Hood

As many of you may know, the second Robin, Jason Todd was killed by the Joker, bought back to life in the Lazarus Pit by Ra's Al Ghul, and then became crime lord, Red Hood, and he believes he was doing what Batman couldn't. Batman: Under The Hood is my favorite Batman animated film, and I would love to see it converted into a live action movie, and it could be perfect, if done correctly. However, I have said that I don't think the Joker should be a main antagonist, and if they do the Death In The Family/Under The Hood storyline, Joker will be required, however, while he is a pivotal character in this storyline, it is possible that the Joker could not actually be on the screen for that much. There is also great internal conflict with Batman with how he reacts to Jason's death.

1. Riddler

The Riddler is the only villain on this list that has already appeared in a film as the primary villain, when he was played by Jim Carrey in Batman Forever. However, I think that Jim Carrey's version was a little bit too campy and like he was trying to be the Joker with a different name, also the costume was terrible. The Riddler could be done again and be more like the Arkham City Riddler. As everyone knows, Batman is also know as the World's Greatest Detective, and that side of him has been played down a bit in the films, having the Riddler in the film would present an intellectual battle for Batman, and it would bring across the detective side of Batman that the comics has shown. Also, in the pretty much all of the Justice League animated movies and TV shows, Batman's intellect has been his main weapon, and the Riddler would bring this to the forefront.

So, those are my picks for villains in a standalone Batman movie. Do you agree, and what villains would you want to see in the Batfleck standalone film?
