That's right! The Sub-Mariner is back on the talks for film adaptation again! The best part about this surfacing news is that we've just been guaranteed that if a Namor movie were to happen that we would definitely see it made at Marvel Studios, home of the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy!
In the past few months, rumors began to circulate that a Namor film was in development at Universal and Legendary that was potentially planned for 2017. However, when Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige was asked if they had the ability to venture forth with the title, he responded with a simple "No."
After this he was asked if Namor was only legally capable of being produced at Marvel Studios. This is where things get interesting!
Yes, but it’s slightly more complicated than that. Let’s put it this way – there are entanglements that make it less easy. There are older contracts that still involve other parties that mean we need to work things out before we move forward on it. As opposed to an Iron Man or any of the Avengers or any of the other Marvel characters where we could just put them in.
The truth is, at this point, we are so ready to see more scientifically unexplainable powers, or at least harder to explain powers than the likes of Thor, Scarlet Witch, and Quicksilver. Things like Doctor Strange or Namor! With Marvel Studios slowly venturing into the crazier and crazier franchises, such as the talking raccoons of Guardians of the Galaxy, the superhero whose name kind of makes you giggle at first thought with Ant-Man, and then the sorcerer who fights creatures from a different dimension with Doctor Strange, Namor may not be that much farther behind.
The way he says "we need to work things out before we move forward on it" sounds as though the studio has brought together its own creative collection for the potential movie, and with the movie almost back at Marvel Studios now, we could be seeing Namor on the big screen a lot sooner than we thought!
