With Marvel preparing for Avengers 2, Ant-Man, Captain America 2, and Doctor Strange, we thought surely we wouldn't be seeing any new franchise from the studio until at least after the completion of Avengers 2! However, with a surprise announcement, Marvel has announced 5 release dates for films until the year 2019, which maintains its annual schedule of two movies a year.
The newly announced dates are as follows:
July 27th, 2017
November 3rd, 2017
July 6th, 2018
November 2nd, 2018
May 3rd, 2019
Perhaps the most interesting fact is that Marvel Studios would likely not risk announcing film release dates if they were unsure about the studios' leadership positions during that time. With Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige only signed on until the end of Marvel's Phase 3, and each phase ending with an Avengers film, its almost certain that Avengers 3 will not come along until the May 3rd, 2019 release date.
Ant-Man will hit theaters next year, officially kicking off Marvel's Phase 3 film schedule. With this knowledge, there is a total of 4 previously announced movie dates, bringing the total number of films up to 9 for the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Phase 3.
In light of this news, I'd like to make a prediction of the Phase 3 plans, so without further ado, my educated guess using only the officially announced release dates and Feige's statement that they'd like to do about one solo movie and one team movie a year:
July 17, 2015 - Ant-Man
May 5th, 2016 - Captain America 3: The Fallen Son
July 8th, 2016 - Doctor Strange: Sorcerer Supreme
May 5th, 2017 - Guardians of the Galaxy 2
July 27th, 2017 - Thor 3: Rise of Surtur
November 3rd, 2017 - The Inhumans
July 6th, 2018 - Black Panther
November 12th, 2018 - The Runaways
May 3rd, 2019 - Avengers 3: The Black Order
