The galaxy of truly legendary stars got a little dimmer today. TMZ has reported that veteran actor James Garner, whose career spanned 60 years, has died at age 86.
The details are light, but sources say an ambulance was dispatched to Garner's residence around 8 p.m. Saturday evening, but he was already dead by the time the paramedics arrived. The cause of death is as yet unknown, though Garner's health has been in decline since a massive stroke suffered last year.
From the start, Garner showed prodigious talent with the rare ability to balance dashing leading man looks with humor and drama. The actor was involved in a number of classic television shows and films over the course of his career including Cheyenne, Up Periscope, The Great Escape, and Maverick. He became a household name for a new generation of fans with The Rockford Files, and yet again for The Notebook and 8 Simple Rules.
While it's sad when a celebrity passes away, there are not many more respected and revered than Garner was. Oh a personal note, he was one of my favorites. There will be one less legend on our screen now.
We'll be seeing you, Mr. Garner. Thanks for all the memories.
