Prepare yourselves, Star Wars fans, because this here? This is a big one.
I'm not even going to try to prepare you for it. Just trust me on this - and watch the video below. Why?
Because you'll get to see an actual, factual (and brand new) Episode VII era X-Wing Starfighter.
And...now I'm officially overexcited.
I mean...just look at it:
That thing is like a sack full of childhood joy, spread out into the shape of one of the coolest vehicles to ever be designed.
Which, it seems, has changed a little since we last saw it:
There's just the one thruster on each side now (though that one looks an awful lot like it opens up alongside the wings), and that iconic red paint job has been replaced with blue. The base design, though? All X-Wing - even if we can't yet see a place to fit an R2-D2-like astromech droid...
PLUS, just to make it even cooler, J.J. Abrams chose to reveal it in the name of a great cause - Star Wars: Force for Change.
That chance to be in Episode VII? The money raised by the competition is set to help out UNICEF's Innovation Labs, which creates awesome technological fixes for those families around the world who need it most. They may not design X-Wings, but the communications systems, educational tools and temporary structures they help to create save countless lives every year.
Plus, the campaign has already given us this:
Which, if you didn't just watch it to the end, features the greatest piece of Princess Leia Cosplay you will ever see. Ever.
Between that and the chance to visit the Star Wars Episode VII set, what more could you need?
Yep. Almost forgot about that for a second there.
Excuse me a sec while I go and re-watch A New Hope for the second time in two days...
[Star Wars: Episode VII](movie:711158) is set for release December 18, 2015. And it had better not be a single day late...
What do you guys think? Excited to see an X-Wing (or fifty) in Episode VII?
