It is hardly shocking when someone says Sony's spider-man franchise is in jeopardy right now! In today's world of gigantic cinematic universes led by the stellar Marvel, Sony's lone ranger Spider-man is facing the heat. With continued diminishing returns at the box office and the latest entry bottoming in both critical reception [53% RT] as well as box office returns, Sony's ambitious plan to create a cinematic universe of their own evoked skepticism.

In spite of [The Amazing Spider-Man 2](movie:508593)not performing up to studio expectations, the film did make an effort to set up a larger universe with appearance of characters like Rhino, Electro, Green Goblin, Black Cat (Felicia hardy) etc. which while leading to a bloated movie promised greater returns down the road. Now if latest rumors are to be believed the plans for the ambitious [Sinister Six](movie:1274281) movie have been scrapped!

Latino Review's Umberto Gonzalez tweeted this :

Now Elmayimbe is hit and miss, but with Roberto Orci's departure to Star Trek, combined with Alex Kurtzman's admittance regarding uncertainty about Sony's future game plan, the rumor is certainly not without credence. I am disappointed because the prospect of a villain team-up movie is enticing. Audiences are showing Spider-man fatigue anyway. All five spider-man movies so far baring a few minor structural changes have been conceptually the same movie i.e: Peter Parker struggling with his public and personal life, a villain born out of tragic circumstances who is close to Peter Parker, a struggling romance etc. And that gets boring after a while. Sony needed to shake up things to keep audiences interesting so this latest rumor if true, could deal a huge blow to the studio's singular comic book money spinner.

I am curious to know what you guys think? Do you want Sinister Six? Or would you rather Sony just relinquish it's rights to Marvel? Comment below!

[Awesome update! f]: Sinister six confirmed in 2016, TASM 3 in 2018. This will bring something new to the superhero genre and the four year gap for TASM 3 will dissipate the Spider-man fatigue!
