So, I didn’t really know that this was a thing, but apparently there’s a new King Arthur movie hitting theaters in 2016. The film is being directed by Guy Ritchie and frankly, he doesn’t care that the legendary king hasn’t been shown enough love in theaters lately (the last time the titular king got a turn in theaters was in 2004…and that didn’t really end well). He is determined to bring this film to fruition. Determination aside, no one has been cast for this movie yet.

Until now.

Apparently, director Guy Ritchie is courting Idris Elba for a role in the aforementioned film. According to Screen Rant, his potential role would be something that sounds Merlin-esque, as he will be training Arthur to be more than a knight. In addition to that, he will be playing a prophetic tutor of sorts.

Personally, I hope it is the role of Merlin, forget some re-imagined role. I for one would gladly see the movie if that was the case. Idris Elba is phenomenal actor and has been splendid in projects like Pacific Rim, Luther, the Thor Franchise, and Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.

Who wouldn’t want to see him in this film?

Also, imagine the backlash from so-called “purists”. That would be free PR right there. I can hear their complaints now (THE WORLD IS TOO PC, OMG).

SERIOUSLY. YOU WILL BE OKAY.

What do you think? Would you be all for Elba possibly playing Merlin? Let me know in the comments below.
