Showtime president David Nevins came to the Television Critics Associations' summer press tour with news for the second season of Penny Dreadful. Along with full details on SDCC Penny Dreadful signings and contests, he also revealed the upcoming season's new villain.

According to Nevins, "There's a great antagonist next year played by Helen McCrory...Season 1's antagonist was sort of an inhuman character. It'll be good to have a more human antagonist." He went on to say that the show is, "a really big cosmology and it's gonna get bigger next year."

McCrory will be playing Madame Kali, a renowned medium and spiritualist. We have already met Madame Kali briefly; she hosted the seance in episode two that overtook our Ms. Ives.

Penny Dreadful has claimed the boasting rights of being Showtime's most watched new show. Naturally, they will be visiting San Diego Comic-Con, headlining the opening of SDCC 2014. The Penny Dreadful panel will be hosted by Aisha Tyler in Ballroom 20 from 6 -7 p.m. Joining Mrs. Tyler are John Logan (the series creator and showrunner), Josh Hartnett (Mr. Chandler), Reeve Carney (Mr. Gray) and Harry Treadaway (Dr. Frankenstein). Attendees to this panel will receive Penny Dreadful inspired tarot cards, view a sneak peek of season two and four super lucky audience members can win tickets to the exclusive Penny Dreadful party later that evening.

Don't win a ticket to the party? That's O.K. There will be autograph signings with Hartnett, Carney, Treadaway and Logan on Thursday, July 24th and Friday, July 25th at the Entertainment Earth booth.
