Despite the rumors, we can now know that the villain in [Captain America 3](movie:994409) will not be the psychotic 1950's Captain, aka the Grand Director. Courtesy of writer Christopher Markus briefly mentioning this brief incarnation of the Captain, the rumors have been flying.

There are some that aren’t gonna start and other ones that — I mean there’s a couple we’re playing with right now that we really want to take elements from... All I’m saying is psychotic 1950s Cap.

Now the writers have spoken with comicbookmovie.com and put those rumors to rest as "off the cuff" remarks.

Yes! That was a smart remark, off the cuff. What I love about that whole run, the whole existence of that, is the sort of single minded desire to retcon everything into continuity, you know? 'But there was five issues in 1950 where he was a jerk!' I know he was a crazed college professor who had plastic surgery, but I think we can honestly say that he will not be making an appearance.

For those who may not know, the "psychotic Cap" was a story arc which was eventually explained away as a desperate fan of the Captain taking on his name and appearance in order to try and fill the space left by his disappearance.

While it would definitely be fun to see two Captains battling it out, I'm more than happy that it won't be a part of the third installment. There are far more interesting options for a part three villain, and if the previous movies are anything to go on, the storyline will be on a much more epic scale.

Of course, now that there is a Peggy Carter TV show in the works, there is still the possibility of seeing a villainous Captain America at some point in the future.
