While the pilot of Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas's new show, iZombie, wasn't ready to air at SDCC, the show's cast and creators held a panel to get fans excited for the CW series. Due to a main role being recast at the last minute, Thomas only had a clip for audience members to view, but the clip gave viewers a more extensive look into the personality of main character, Liv Moore.
The clip that the audience saw showed med student Liv's conversion to zombie-ism, her work with the police at the Seattle morgue, and her process of eating murder victim's brains and gaining their knowledge/behaviors. While the people in attendance at the panel enjoyed the clip, according to Deadline, there were murmurs that Liv's constant narration made the show seem like "The Veronica Mars Zombie Show."
However, Thomas and iZombie co-creator Diane Ruggiero addressed those concerns head one:
“Diane and I have a similar aesthetic in our shows and our dramas have a sense of humor. So I think tonally, we’ll live in that (Veronica Mars) world. iZombie is clearly dialed up with more action. Sometimes fans put Veronica and Buffy the Vampire Slayer in the same category and I would say that this is closer to Buffy.”
According to the show runners, Liv is less snarky and misanthropic than Veronica. Whether or not that is a good thing remains to be seen!
