Marvel is adding to its TV roster at the end of this year with Agent Carter, a series centered on Peggy Carter, Steve Roger's original love interest. I'm really excited about this new project, partially because of the female lead, but also because this is a great character that we cannot see much more of on the big screen (except for flashbacks, memories, or as an old woman like we saw in The Winter Soldier).
Today at SDCC, Marvel revealed some of the big names that will be working on the project, and hearing this makes me even more excited to see the pilot episode.
Hayley Atwell will (obviously) be reprising her role as Peggy Carter, and she spoke about the development of the character and her collaboration with the creative team. She is clearly thrilled to be able to expand the role into a series, and I can't wait to see where she takes Peggy.
Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, writers for Captain America: The First Avenger and Captain America: The Winter Soldier have written the pilot, which will be directed by Louis D'Esposito. The Russo brothers aren't present in the clip, but they have been announced to be directing the second and third episodes. All of which makes perfect sense - Markus and McFeely are the perfect writers to create a world around Peggy Carter, and make a phenomenal team with the Russo brothers.
The big surprise, however, is that it looks like Joe Johnston may be directing the fourth episode of the show! The director of Captain America: The First Avenger certainly makes sense, but with the Russo brothers taking over for The Winter Solider, there were rumors of a falling-out between Johnston and Marvel.
It looks like the rumors were false, or perhaps they have decided to bury the hatchet. Either way, it's great to see all the creative talent that was behind the movies coming together to work on this show, and I cannot wait to see it.
