While [The Flash](movie:15273) takes center stage for the DC TV-verse at SDCC 2014, Arrow is not forgotten. Warner Bros revealed a teaser for the third season, starting this fall, and it looks absolutely incredible!
Warning: Spoilers ahead if you have not finished watching Season 2!
We open with Helena's line from mid-way through Season Two: Once you let the darkness inside, it never comes out. I'm guessing that this may be a clue as to the tone of the third season, although the show is pretty dark already!
We then get a high-octane recap of the pivotal moments from the second season, including the shocking death of Moira in Episode 20. With Felicity telling Oliver that he will not stop fighting, we see Slade's final capture and the return of Malcolm Merlyn before we move into the teasers for next season.
And oh, these are spoiler-iffic! Some things we have seen or heard about already, like Roy Harper's amazing new costume as Arsenal, which is going to be incredible. I cannot wait to see where they go with Roy, especially with Thea gone. Thea herself is noticeably absent from the trailer, but I doubt that she will actually be missing from the entire season.
We see Ray Palmer (Atom) meeting with Felicity and Oliver in the office, and we already knew that he would be brought in to the business, with something to do with the Applied Sciences division. I would love to know if we will see him as Atom in this season, or if that is something that the creators are saving for a little way down the line.
A more surprising business twist is that apparently Oliver is going to be doing something with Laurel, although all we know so far is that they are "business partners". I'm assuming that this is a smaller enterprise on the side, perhaps something that Oliver is backing for Laurel?
We see that a lot of Oliver's time "on the island" was actually not on the island at all, which is honestly somewhat confusing. While the last two seasons have definitely suggested that he had to be elsewhere at some point, let's not forget the opening scene where he is rescued. So either he was forced back onto the island, or voluntarily returned. It's possible that he decided to return to Starling City and just wanted to avoid questions by pretending to have been marooned on an island the entire time. We know he does tend to lie about what happened in those five years.
It also looks like during those years, Oliver encountered Amanda Waller, as we see him talking to her while he is definitely in island-mode. It doesn't sound like a pleasant conversation, either, as she essentially threatens to kill him. It will be interesting to see how this affects his relationship with Diggle, and when they make that connection.
Black Canary returns, despite having left at the end of Season wo with Nyssa. I'm a little on the fence about this character, and I actually hope that she doesn't play too big a part in the new season.
Of course, I've saved the best news for last! Oliver and Felicity look like they are finally actually getting together! Felicity is my favorite character on the show for so many reasons, and the tension between her and Oliver is incredible. Oliver finally (finally) gets it together enough to ask her out to dinner, but where will this actually go? Ray Palmer has been hinted at as a love interest for Felicity, and we know that we will see her previous flirtation with the Flash re-ignited in the crossover episodes. Add to that the return of Sara, and there is no telling what will happen.
I'm still gunning for Oliver and Felicity to be together, but it makes the show even better to be constantly rooting for them as they fail to make it happen.
The teaser ends with the caption "The Epic Third Season", and from the looks of it, they are not exaggerating at all! The season premiere is October 8th, and I am counting down the days.
