At SDCC the bomb was dropped that Gareth Edwards will be bringing Godzilla 2 into production after his immediate commitments to the Star Wars universe are taken care of. Monster fans were rejoicing to hear that not only would Godzilla be returning but that he’d be joined by the trio of Rodan, Mothra, and Ghidorah. Godzilla is a big deal to me, so I for one am very excited by this news.
So we all now know the monster line-up of the new film. Perhaps less known is that this isn’t the first time this exact line-up of monsters have appeared on screen together. They also shared the screen in the 1964 film ‘Ghidorah: The Three Headed Monster’. [Trailer]
This is my very favourite of all the Godzilla movies even though it’s not technically a Godzilla movie (Ghidorah being in the title). It is so off the wall, and so kooky. There’s a lot to love in it.
Because of this I thought I’d take a moment to break down the events of that movie so we can maybe get some idea of what to expect when Edwards brings us [Godzilla 2](movie:1433439) in all of its glory to the big screen.
Okay, so without any further ado, let us get started:
