Man of Steel was one of the most polarizing superhero films of all time. Whatever your feelings about the film, the marketing was very earnest about its tone. All trailers/ posters/ images of Man Of Steel were somber and honest about the film's eventual feel. So I was a little surprised when people complain about lack of levity in the film, when all the promotional material promised the serious, reflective film.
Its follow up, [Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice](movie:711870), is one of the most hotly anticipated films of all time. In SDCC, WB/DC released a trailer invoking Frank Miller's seminal story The Dark Knight Returns and fans went ape shit. The trailer was dark and moody ( and awesome!) and all the images of Superman/Batman/Wonder Woman have been somber as well. The promotional material is pretty indicative of the tone of the film and if the film is taking inspiration from The Dark Knight Returns it is perfectly faithful to the source material. For more evidence look at the director's previous films, even his PG animated venture Legend of the Guardians: Owls of Gahoole was dark and solemn as they come. People should take cues from this and expect a darker theme to this movie going in.
In short death and destruction will be a theme even in this film like in [Man of Steel](movie:15593). Snyder has said in a previous interview about Superman's existence " ....It isn't fun or funny" Now I like my violence up close and personal. Large scale destruction gets mind-numbing after a while. Personal violence adds tension and drama and makes for a thrilling movie.
Bananadoc has released certain images from the set and previous images showed signs of large scale destruction. The new images continue that trend.
Even the green screen isn't safe
