Worried about missing your epic fantasy hit now that Game of Thrones is over for another year, and December's The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies is set to bring our decade of Tolkien-ated action to a close?

Well, worry no more - Anne McCaffrey's legendary series Dragonriders of Pern looks set to be hitting our screens in the near future. Warner Brothers have optioned the entire 22 novel series (presumably with the assorted short stories thrown in), and seem to see the novels as having some serious franchise potential.

Which, considering the books' content, makes a whole lot of sense. An epic blend of sci-fi and fantasy, McCaffrey's series blends together the realistic period fantasy of Game of Thrones and the awesomeness of dragons of How to Train Your Dragon - and has been doing it since 1967... Add time travel, intergalactic peril, a dedicated fanbase and an almost endless supply of sequel-fodder, and you have a recipe for either a dragon-sized pile of success, or a whole lot of disappointment if the filmmakers screw it up.

But in the meantime, more dragons is never a bad thing.

[Dragonriders of Pern](movie:2150024) has only just been set on course for an adaptation, so the first film is likely a way away yet. As in, post-2017 way away...

What do you guys think? Ready for some Dragonriders?
