When I hear the word "parody", I expect me some LOLs. What I don't expect, however, is heartbreak and agony. Which is what Potterhood gave me.
The trailer for the "new Harry Potter movie" is done in the style of Richard Linklater's most recent movie, Boyhood, which was shot over twelve years, so that in the course of this three-hour drama we watch its characters age physically and emotionally.
There is at least one other movie project that has allowed us to see the lead character grow up with its audience - and that is Harry Potter. So, as you can imagine, it didn't take long for this video to arrive. Take a look and see if you can stomach the touching story of one boy growing up…as a wizard:
It's an obvious but genius idea, no?
While the Harry Potter series wasn't quite as dependent on having a consistent lead actor as Boyhood was, the fact that Radcliffe stuck around made it all the better when he emerged as a fully formed man in The Deathly Hallows. Now I'm really curious what it would be like if someone edited together the Harry Potter films into a Boyhood-esque movie that just focuses on the quieter moments...
Would you watch an entire Boyhood-style Harry Potter movie?
