Back in 1998, long before vampires were the sparkly, miserable emo kids depicted nowadays, we were introduced to Blade, a vampire-superhero-vigilante who spent his evenings hacking off limbs and heads to a techno beat.
Wesley Snipes kicked ass in three Blade movies (although the final installment was a bit of a disaster). So much ass in fact that some might argue the bloody trilogy made the current crop of Marvel superhero movies possible.
And now it seems that Snipes wants more vampire-slaying action and is super-enthusiastic to get Blade 4 up and running.
Speaking to MTV at the SDCC, Snipes admitted:
I'd be open to it. I think we've got some stones left unturned and there's some latitude left for us to build on and I'd love to get back in the suit again and do some things I've learned how to do now that I didn't know how to do then. I think we're better at making that kind of a film now. Some of the things we did in the early parts of the franchise were experimental and now they've become customary in a lot of the 'Avengers' films and other comic book adaptations.
There are "some things he's learned"? Considering he spent the past few years in prison, this could mean we'd get a very different Blade movie this time round...
Turns out that Snipes has even thought about a plot for Blade 4, although Twilight fans should look away now. Things are about to get messy. Talking to EW, he said:
Blade chasing the Twilight kids around? Hey man, there's always a possibility, and I'm open to it. There have been rumors around that we may explore the opportunity, so give me one more shot! I've gotten a little bit better, and I think we can add a little flavor to it.
Blade hacking down the Twilight vamps? Now that's a crossover I could get on board with.
Despite Snipes' love of the character, I'm not sure we'll ever see him don the iconic suit and shades again. Marvel has retaken the rights to the character and you'd have to assume that if we do get another Blade it would probably be a straight-up reboot.
But that doesn't mean we can't dream about a day when Blade makes it back to the big screen. I remember watching the first movie back in the day and being totally blown away by its style, violence and sexiness.
I mean, the opening scene is still one of the coolest I've ever seen.
This is how you make vampires properly sexy and scary.
